Background

According to Fazo, the album was inspired by his ability to be versatile on different types of genres, and Me vs Me was the pure encapsulation of that. That was his intention of making this album. In his interview with Our Generation Music, he would quote:

“Most of my music is considered “rage.” But not everything, I make a bit of everything. RnB, plugg music… I love Bryson Tiller… It’s only now when I actually make music I can really register and appreciate that.” [3]

Promotional singles

Prior to the album's release, ME VS ME had several promotional singles, with the first one, dubbed "ttwlg (This the Way Life Goes), released on December 25th, 2021. According to Our Generation Music's Nimai Kumar, the track is "a SoundCloud cut that sees Fazo crooning intoxicating verses". Due to the track success, it rose to #7 on SoundCloud’s "New & Hot" chart. [4]

Following the first installment, Yung Fazo would follow through with the second installment, "ttwlg 2", which sees him bring in Raeusi for the track. The track released on June 24, 2022, just six months after the first one dropped.

Just a month and a few weeks after, on August 19, 2022, Yung Fazo releases the third promotional single for the album, dubbed "honest". According to Thomas Galindo of Our Generation Music, he claims "honest" demonstrates "growth from Fazo, in terms of both artistry and maturity". [5] Following the release, a DotComNirvan-directed music video was released. [5]

Lastly, Yung Fazo would release the final promotional single for the album, dubbed "steal da swag", which released on November 1, 2022, just three days before the album's release. To celebrate the album's upcoming release, Yung Fazo released the official music video for "steal da swag". According to Alfred Sanchez of Diamond KUT Magazine. [6]

Critical reception

John Cotter of Our Generation Music claimed how ME VS ME showed how "transparent" Fazo was on the album, from its "theatrical" opening track "new me", to its closing track, "relocate", which he called an "emotional outcry, hammering in the thematic waves of love and temptation". [3]

Additionally, according to the OGM Staff of Our Generation Music, Yung Fazo's ME VS ME was featured on OGM’s ‘Platinum Picks’ from New Music Friday (Nov. 4) page. [7]

According to Steve 'Flash' Juon of Rap Reviews, he claimed how the album itself has some good ideas that could "push the envelope of SoundCloud rap". Juon also mentions how the album sees "Yung Fazo fall back into cliche or relies too heavily on pitch correction, the production largely pulls him through to the other side". Despite this critical review, Juon also stated writing off on Fazo just yet. He gave Fazo an overall score of 5.5 out of 10, with his music style being 6 out of 10, while his lyrics being a 5 out of 10. [8]
