Medha Shankr (born 1 August 1997) is an Indian actress who is known for her works in Hindi films. Shankr made her acting debut with the British miniseries Beecham House (2019) and followed it with supporting roles in the film Shaadisthan and the series Dil Bekaraar (both 2021). She achieved her breakthrough with the biographical drama 12th Fail (2023), which won her the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut. [2] [3]

Life and career

Shankr was born and brought up in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Shankr is a trained Hindustani classical singer. She completed her master's degree in Fashion Management from National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi. [4] [5]

Shankr made her acting debut in 2019, with the British television series Beecham House , where she portrayed Roshanara. [6] [7] Shankr then made her film debut in 2021, with Shaadisthan , a Hindi teen musical film. [8] Shrishti Negi of News18 opined, "Medha channels a teenager’s vulnerabilities and simmering frustrations with utmost honesty". [9] That same year, she portrayed the youngest sibling, Eshwari, in the streaming series Dil Bekaraar , which received positive reviews from critics. [4] [10]

In 2022, Shankr portrayed Minara, a girl who dumps her boyfriend for an older man in Max, Min and Meowzaki. The film received critical acclaim at various film festivals. [11] In 2023, Shankr portrayed Shraddha Joshi, an UKPSC officer in the drama film 12th Fail , opposite Vikrant Massey. [12] Bhavna Agarwal of India Today noted, "Medha Shankr as Shraddha, has a defined part as well, and she is the crutch that helps with lighter moments in the film". [13] Anuj Kumar of The Hindu stated that Shankr impresses with her "poise and warmth". [14] The film emerged as a sleeper hit. [15] It proved to be her breakthrough and earned her wider recognition. [16]

She is reported next to star opposite Rajkummar Rao in the action thriller film Maalik. [17] [18]

Indian 2 is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language vigilante action film directed by S. Shankar, who co-wrote the script with B. Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar. 12th Fail is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language biographical drama film directed, produced and written by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It is based on the 2019 eponymous non-fiction book by Anurag Pathak about Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcame extreme poverty to become an Indian Police Service officer. The film stars Vikrant Massey as Sharma, alongside Medha Shankr, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee.

Manoj Kumar Sharma is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 2005 batch, assigned to the Maharashtra cadre. He currently holds the ranks of Inspector General of Police in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Sharma hails from an impoverished village in Chambal, an area known for its history of dacoity. His struggle to become an IPS officer amidst poverty was the subject of the book Twelfth Fail by Anurag Pathak, which subsequently became the film 12th Fail (2023).

Shraddha Joshi Sharma is an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 2007 batch. She is the Managing Director of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in Mumbai.
