Meg Hughes is an American soccer player who plays as a midfielder. She played college soccer for the Providence Friars and the Michigan State Spartans.

College career

Hughes played four seasons for the Providence Friars, being named the Big East Conference Freshman of the Year in 2020 and earning all-conference honors every season, twice on the first team. She scored 23 goals and provided 13 assists in 70 games. [1] [2] [3] She transferred to the Michigan State Spartans for her graduate season in 2024. She scored 7 goals with 6 assists in 22 games and was named second-team All-Big Ten. [4]

Club career

Hughes was invited to train as a non-roster invitee with the Washington Spirit in the 2025 preseason. [5]

They finished the season 29–6, 13–5 in Big Ten play to finish in second place. They defeated Ohio State, Maryland, and Purdue to win the Big Ten tournament. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, their 19th straight NCAA tournament appearance. As the No. 2 seed in the Midwest region, they were upset by No. 15 seed Middle Tennessee in what is considered to be one of the biggest upsets in NCAA tournament history.
