Sophia Boman is an American soccer player who plays as a midfielder. She played college soccer for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, where she earned four-time All-Big Ten honors.

Early life and college career

Boman grew up in Edina, Minnesota, one of three daughters born to Steve and Julie Boman. [1] Her mother is a pediatrician. [2] Her family moved to Duluth, Minnesota, from California when she was in kindergarten. [3] Boman attended Edina High School, where she played soccer all four years and was named All-American twice and the Minnesota Star Tribune All-Metro Player of the Year in 2019. [1] [3] She played club soccer for Minnesota Thunder Academy. [1]

Minnesota Golden Gophers

Boman started all 86 games for the Minnesota Golden Gophers from 2020 to 2024, playing the full 90 minutes in all but nine of them. [1] [4] She recorded 16 goals and 15 assists in 64 games during her first four seasons as a central or attacking midfielder, earning Big Ten Conference all-freshman, two-time second-team All-Big Ten, and third-team All-Big Ten honors, and becoming a team captain in her senior season. In her graduate season, she was shifted to defensive midfielder by head coach Erin Chastain and played every minute of the campaign, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors as Minnesota went undefeated at home during the regular season. She scored a career-high 8 goals (5 of them penalties) in 22 games, including 3 in the NCAA tournament as Minnesota reached the third round. [1] [2]

Club career

Boman was invited to train as a non-roster player with the Kansas City Current in the 2025 preseason. [5]

Francis LeRoy "Pug" Lund was an American football player. He played college football as a halfback for Minnesota Golden Gophers and won All-Big Ten Conference honors in both 1933 and in 1934. He was captain of the 1934 Minnesota Golden Gophers football team that compiled a perfect 8–0 record and won the national championship. He won the Chicago Tribune Silver Football trophy as the most valuable player in the conference in 1934 and was also a consensus first-team player on the 1934 All-America college football team. Lund was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1958.

The 2016–17 Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team represented the University of Minnesota in the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Gophers, led by fourth-year head coach Richard Pitino, were members of the Big Ten Conference and played their home games at Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They finished the season 24–10, 11–7 in Big Ten play to finish in fourth place. In the Big Ten tournament, they beat Michigan State in the quarterfinals before losing to Michigan in the semifinals.
