The Toyota Mekong Club Championship was an ASEAN club competition for men's association football clubs. [1] [2] Five teams entered as respective domestic league winners from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. [3] [4]

Contents

History

In 2014, Toyota Motor wanted to develop in aspiring football players and football fans in the countries alongside the Mekong River: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, so Toyota debuted the competition called Mekong Club Championship. The first competition was held in 2014 at Bình Dương, Vietnam [5] with four countries participating. Becamex Bình Dương became the first club that won the championship. The second competition was held in 2015, with Thailand joining. [6]

The 2014 Mekong Club Championship was the inaugural season of the Mekong Club Championship. Four teams from the respective domestic league winners from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam competed. The inaugural championship was in Vietnam from 31 October 2014 and 2 November and played on a knockout basis starting from the semi-finals stage. The championship is sponsored by Toyota.

The 2017 AFF U-18 Youth Championship was the 15th edition of the AFF U-19 Youth Championship, organised by ASEAN Football Federation. It was hosted by Myanmar during September 2017. Eleven out of the twelve member associations of the ASEAN Football Federation took part in the tournament featuring two groups of five and six teams.

Nguyễn Tiến Linh is a Vietnamese professional footballer who plays as a striker for V.League 1 club Becamex Bình Dương and the Vietnam national team. In 2021, Tiến Linh was nominated by a panel of sports journalists and football experts for Best Footballer in Asia. He is considered one of the best Vietnamese footballers of his generation. After the match against China in February 2022, he became the all-time leader for Vietnam in the World Cup qualifiers, passing Lê Công Vinh who had 7 goals.

The 2017 Mekong Club Championship was the 4th season of the Mekong Club Championship. The championship was sponsored by Toyota and was played between December 2017 and January 2018 featuring teams from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. This edition, the champions of 2017 Myanmar National League was absent from the tournament.

The 2018 AFF U-19 Youth Championship was the 16th edition of the AFF U-19 Youth Championship, organised by ASEAN Football Federation. It was hosted by Indonesia during July 2018. Eleven out of the twelve member associations of the ASEAN Football Federation took part in the tournament featuring two groups of five and six teams.

The 2019 AFF U-15 Championship was the fourteenth edition of the AFF U-16 Championship, the annual international youth association football championship organised by the ASEAN Football Federation for men's under-15 national teams of Southeast Asia.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 AFF U-19 Youth Championship</span> International football competition

The 2022 AFF U-19 Youth Championship was the 18th edition of the AFF U-19 Youth Championship, organised by ASEAN Football Federation. It was hosted by Indonesia during July 2022. The planned 2020 and 2021 AFF U-19 Youth Championship were cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic. Players born after 1 January 2003 could participate in this tournament.
