1 Silvan Province MLC Carolyn Hirsh was forced to resign from the Labor Party in September 2004 after being caught driving without a licence, which she had lost after being booked for drink-driving earlier in the year. She was later readmitted in November 2005, after a failed attempt to rejoin in April, but was subsequently expelled again in June 2006 after another drink-driving incident.
2 Ballarat Province MLC Dianne Hadden resigned from the Labor Party on 7 April 2005 and announced her intention to serve out the remainder of her term as an independent.
3 Silvan Province MLC Andrew Olexander was dismissed from the parliamentary wing of the Liberal Party on 29 November 2005, due to critical comments made after the decision not to grant him party endorsement to contest the next election after a drink-driving scandal.

Pauline Hanson's One Nation, also known as One Nation or One Nation Party, is a political party in Australia. One Nation was founded in 1997, by member of parliament Pauline Hanson and her advisors David Ettridge and David Oldfield after Hanson was disendorsed as a federal candidate for the Liberal Party of Australia. Carolyn Dorothy Hirsh is a former Australian politician representing Silvan Province in the Victorian Legislative Council. Elected as a member of the Labor Party, she was forced to resign from the party in September 2004 after being booked for driving a car without a licence. This followed an incident earlier in the year when she had lost her licence after being booked by police with an alcohol reading of 0.07, while driving home from an ALP function. She sat as an independent member of the Legislative Council from then until November 2005, when she was re-admitted to the ALP, but was forced to resign a second time on 23 June 2006, after a second drink-driving incident.

Andrew Phillip Olexander is a former Australian politician. He was an independent member of the Victorian Legislative Council representing Silvan Province from November 2005 to November 2006, after being expelled from the parliamentary Liberal Party, which he had represented since 1999.

2006 Victorian state election

The 2006 Victorian state election, held on Saturday, 25 November 2006, was for the 56th Parliament of Victoria. Just over 3 million Victorians registered to vote elected 88 members to the Legislative Assembly and, for the first time, 40 members to the Legislative Council under a proportional representation system. The election was conducted by the independent Victorian Electoral Commission.

Lara Giddings Australian politician; 44th Premier of Tasmania

Larissa Tahireh "Lara" Giddings is a former Australian politician who was the 44th Premier of Tasmania from 24 January 2011 until 31 March 2014, the first woman to hold the position. Born in Goroka, Papua New Guinea, she was a Labor Party member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly seat of Franklin from 2002 to 2018, and was the party's leader during her period as premier, replaced by Bryan Green after her government's defeat at the 2014 state election. Giddings came from the Labor Left faction.

Shelley Frances Archer is a former Australian politician. She was a Labor Party member of the Western Australian Legislative Council from May 2005, representing the Mining and Pastoral electoral region. A former union official, she was one of several state MPs to become involved in the 2006–2007 Corruption and Crime Commission investigation into the dealings of former-Premier-turned-lobbyist Brian Burke. The partner of influential unionist Kevin Reynolds, she was associated with the conservative wing of the party.

Silvan Province was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council. It existed as a two-member electorate from 1992 to 2006, with members holding alternating eight-year terms. It was considered a safe seat for the Liberal Party for much of its history, but was a surprise gain for the Labor Party in the party's landslide victory at the 2002 state election. The electorate saw some controversy in its final term when both its members, Labor MLC Carolyn Hirsh and Liberal MLC Andrew Olexander were expelled from their respective parties for drink-driving offences. The electorate was abolished from the 2006 state election in the wake of the Bracks Labor government's reform of the Legislative Council.

Licia Kokocinski is an Australian politician. She served as a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1988 to 1996, representing Melbourne West Province. She was the first woman from a non-English speaking background to be elected to the Victorian parliament.
