The Mercedes-Benz O404 was both a complete coach and a coach chassis manufactured by Mercedes-Benz between 1992 and 1999. As a complete coach it was available in three different lengths (O404-10, O404-13 and O404-15) and three different heights (RH, RHD and SHD). As a chassis it was available both with two and three axles.
Israeli bus operator Egged was the first corporation to use the O404 to carry passengers, as opposed to tours operation.
The Mercedes-Benz O404 was launched in 1992 as a replacement for the O303. [1]
It was superseded by the Mercedes-Benz OC500RF as a chassis, known in Australia as the Mercedes-Benz O500RF, and the Mercedes-Benz Travego as a complete coach in 1999.

The Mercedes-Benz OC 500 LE is a modular, heavy-duty, twin-axle bus chassis produced by Mercedes-Benz/EvoBus Ibérica, Spain. It was designed as a modular platform for low-entry city, suburban, and intercity buses with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 19.1 tonnes. The main modules consist of: 1) driver's pedestal, 2) front axle, 3) buggy centre section, 4) drive axle and 5) engine. It has much in common with the chassis used for the Mercedes-Benz Citaro integral bus range, and also the raised floor OC 500 RF coach chassis. The engine is horizontally mounted over the rear overhang.
The Mercedes-Benz O405 was a highly successful single-decker bus manufactured by Mercedes-Benz from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s as either an integral bus or a bus chassis and was the last VöV SL-II standard bus in production. It was the replacement for the Mercedes-Benz O305 and was widely used in Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore with 12,000 produced.
From 1990 to 1995, Mercedes-Benz sold a high-performance version of the W124, the Mercedes-Benz 500 E (W124.036). The 500 E was created in close cooperation with Porsche. With its engineering department being fully occupied with the development of the new S-Class, Mercedes-Benz commissioned Porsche in 1989 to redesign the W124 chassis to shoehorn the 5.0L V8 used in the SL into it, along with the necessary changes on the suspension system and drive train. When the car was ready, it was found that its widened wings didn't fit through the W124 assembly line in Sindelfingen in three places. Hence Porsche was also commissioned to assemble the car. As a side-effect this arrangement provided workload for Porsche's plant, as the company was in crisis at the time, and its factory capacity was underutilized.
The Irizar PB is a coach body manufactured by the Irizar Group from 2001 to 2015. It was built upon of the wide range of chassis. It was designed by Arup Design Research in the UK. Its revolutionary styling and features led to the variant with a Scania chassis being named European Coach of the Year 2004.
The Wright Endurance was a step-entrance single-decker bus body on Mercedes-Benz, Scania N113 and on Volvo B10B chassis by Wrightbus between 1993 and 1997.
Drögmöller was a motor coach manufacturer based in Heilbronn, Germany. The company operated between 1920 and 2005 and was known for the production of touring coaches.
The Caetano Levante is a coach body built by Salvador Caetano on Mercedes-Benz OC 500 RF, Scania K EB, Volvo B8R, Volvo B9R, Volvo B11R, Volvo B12B and Volvo B13R chassis, exclusively for National Express in the United Kingdom. It was specifically designed to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act 2005.

Normally the use of the term single-decker refers to a standard two-axled rigid bus, in direct contrast to the use of the term double-decker bus, which is essentially a bus with two passengers decks and a staircase. It was initially introduced as the successor of low-cost variant presented in year 1992 (O340) to the more luxurious Mercedes-Benz O404 and is produced at Mercedes-Benz bus plant in Hoşdere, Istanbul, Turkey. In 2006 a revised version was launched. By 2014, 21,000 had been sold.
Mellor Coachcraft is a British bus manufacturer based in Bolton, Greater Manchester, with a factory in nearby Rochdale. Founded in the 1960s, Mellor have primarily produced bodywork for various different minibus chassis throughout its history.
The Mercedes-Benz Travego is an integral coach produced since 1999 by Daimler/EvoBus in Neu-Ulm and Mannheim in Germany and since 2005 at Mercedes-Benz bus plant in Hoşdere, Istanbul, Turkey.. It succeeded the O404 and was originally introduced as the flagship of Mercedes-Benz touring coach range.
