Mercers Lake is a body of water in Mercers Park, Merstham, near Redhill, Surrey. It is a former quarry that has been adapted for water sports, such as sailing, kayaking, and paddle boarding.
The lake was originally a sand quarry created by British Industrial Sands. [1] [2]
The water sports centre has received planning permission to expand, and work is ongoing to build a larger cafe and adventure playground as of 2024. [3]
The lake is used for fishing and contains perch, bream, pike, and large carp. [4]
The lake is also used for scuba diving courses by Oyster Diving, a PADI Dive Centre. There are facilities for setting up equipment, hiring equipment and having guided dives. The lake is up to 15m deep, and contains the remains of the front of a Cessna plane, other sunken attractions and an underwater forest. [4]
A 31-year-old man named Edward Savage drowned in the lake in June 2018. Local police had received a number of calls about youths swimming in the lake earlier in the week. The death was not connected to the company who run water sports there. [5]
In 2023 a swan was killed with a brick, following a similar incident in 2022, where a swan was shot with a ball bearing. [6]

Redhill is a town in the borough of Reigate and Banstead within the county of Surrey, England. Holme Pierrepont is a hamlet and civil parish located 5 miles (8 km) south-east of the city of Nottingham in Nottinghamshire, England. It is in the Gamston ward of the Rushcliffe local authority in the East Midlands region. The population of the civil parish as at the 2011 census was 528, and this reported 568 residents at the 2021 census.

Merstham is a town in the borough of Reigate and Banstead in Surrey, England. It lies 17 miles south of Charing Cross just beyond the Greater London border. Lost Lagoon is an artificial 16.6-hectare body of water, west of Georgia Street, near the entrance to Stanley Park in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Surrounding the lake is a 1.75 km (1.09 mi) trail. The lake features a lit fountain that was erected by Robert Harold Williams to commemorate the city's golden jubilee. It is a nesting ground to many species of birds, including Canada geese, numerous species of duck such as mallard ducks, and great blue herons. Also many turtles are usually resident on the northern shore.

The Redhill–Tonbridge line is a 19-mile-56-chain (31.70 km) railway line in South East England. It runs from the Brighton Main Line at Redhill in Surrey to the South Eastern Main Line at Tonbridge in Kent. There are five intermediate stations: Nutfield, Godstone, Edenbridge, Penshurst and Leigh. Rock Lake Pool was an outdoor swimming pool located in South Charleston, West Virginia operating from 1942 to 1985. Being 550 feet (170 m) long, it was billed as "the largest and most beautiful pool in the East." The pool was built in an old rock quarry in the 1930s and opened by Joe, David, and Sam Wilan in 1942. The pool was enclosed by tall natural rock walls that provided high dives. The pool was very popular in both West Virginia and neighboring states and on one occasion, even drew a crowd of around 4,000 swimmers in one day. After a long decline, the historic pool eventually closed in 1985 due to increased insurance cost and competition from other pools. The site is now owned by Rock Lake Presbyterian Church.
The 2010 Sharm El Sheikh shark attacks were a series of attacks by sharks on swimmers off the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. On 1 December 2010, three Russians and one Ukrainian were seriously injured within minutes of each other, and, on 5 December 2010, a German woman was killed when she was attacked while wading and snorkeling in the shallows close to the shoreline. The attacks were described as "unprecedented" by shark experts.
Leybourne Lakes Country Park is near Snodland, in Kent, England. The park, which opened in 2004, was created from disused gravel pits that have been flooded and landscaped to make fishing and wildlife lakes.
