Mercy Mission is a non-profit organization founded by Tawfique Chowdhury in 2007. [1] It focuses on supporting Muslims returning to their faith.
Mercy Mission was founded with the motto “knowledge and action.” It was founded in Australia and subsequently spread to the UK, South Africa, India, Canada, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
As of 2013 [update] it had over twenty projects, mainly divided into education and social service. [2]
The organization's mission is to promote religious observance, confidence, self-sufficiency, and selflessness.
According to Charity Commission for England and Wales Mercy Mission UK has an annual revenue of £851,846 and expenditures of £779,079. [3] It has over 3000 volunteers who were mainly recruited through its AlKauthar institute.
Charity Right is a not-for-profit organization under Mercy Mission established in 2013 which focuses on providing food to chronically hungry people worldwide. It feeds thousands of people weekly and aims to verify its spending by providing pictures and GPS coordinates. [4] It raises funds through its website, charity dinners and public charity events. [5] Charity Right also provides job matching and training with the help of government bodies. [6]
Mercy Mission's women's shelters cater to homeless Muslim women in Melbourne, [7] London, Birmingham, Manchester, Mumbai and Kuala Lumpur. The temporary accommodation offered by the charity provides an environment which complies with the Islamic way of life. [8] Mercy Mission also help the new converts to Islam through a dedicated website [9] and buddy system. Every participant in the "New Muslim Care" goes through a cycle which includes components to assist them with various educational, emotional, and social needs. Pure Matrimony, another initiative that started along with other sister projects at Mercy Mission, is world's largest Muslim matrimonial website exclusively catering for practising single Muslims that is exclusively owned by TSQ Media Limited.
The organization offers the Alkauthar institute which has offered courses in 25 cities to over 57,000 students since its inception. [10] This institute is similar to AlMaghrib Institute. Mercy Mission organizes the "Annual Islamic Conference", "Twins of Faith" and "Being ME" in the UK, Malaysia, Australia and Canada. [11] [12] It also publishes a magazine for children which teaches about various topics, such as science and history, as well as Islam. [13]
Ramadan TV is designed for the Muslim viewer in the month of Ramadan. [14] The channel is designed to showcase a diverse portfolio of shows to reach a wide range of Muslims and help them increase in god consciousness. The channel claims that in 2010, 8/10 Muslim homes reported having viewed the channel. [15] Ramadan TV has also helped the Syrian victims and refugees through its TV series during the Syrian civil war in 2013. [16] Ramadan TV was available in the UK on Sky channel 875 from 12 June to 29 July 2014 as Showcase 3.
In 2014, Mercy Mission announced its first Umrah tour (called Revival Tours) to the Islamic holy cities of Makka and Medina. [17]
In 2015, Mercy Mission began its first international school program, called Seven Skies, in Malaysia. [18] In 2016, Mercy Mission announced a branch of Seven Skies in Australia. [19] Although first announced in 2014, in 2017 Mercy Mission re-announced its second International School program (called Guardian) in Canada. [20]
National Zakat foundation collects zakat, which Muslims are required to pay each year and helps local Muslims.
The Zam Zam project deals with the water conservation at mosques and community centres. [21] It was nominated for the 2009 National Savewater Awards in Australia. [22] It also deals with clean up projects with municipal corporation of Mumbai to make the neighborhoods clean and livable. [23]
The Foundation for the Advancement of Muslim Enterprise (FAME) is a network dedicated to the advancement of Muslim professionals, business owners, entrepreneurs, academics and those emerging professionals who are engaged in studies with aspirations of entrepreneurship. It offers its members regular forums to network and exchanges ideas with fellow professionals. [24]
In 2012 Mercy Mission came under criticism for Ramadan TV's "Save Maryam" campaign, which inaccurately claimed that 2 million Muslims convert to Christianity each year. [25] [26]
The Five Pillars of Islam are fundamental practices in Islam, considered to be obligatory acts of worship for all Muslims. They are summarized in the hadith of Gabriel. The Sunni and Shia agree on the basic details of the performance and practice of these acts, but the Shia do not refer to them by the same name. They are: Muslim creed, prayer, charity to the poor, fasting in the month of Ramadan, and the pilgrimage to Mecca for those who are able.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer (salah), reflection, and community. Eid al-Fitr is the earlier of the two official holidays celebrated within Islam. Eid al-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar; this does not always fall on the same Gregorian day, as the start of any lunar Hijri month varies based on when the new moon is sighted by local religious authorities. Yusuf al-Qaradawi was an Egyptian Islamic scholar based in Doha, Qatar, and chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars. His influences included Ibn Taymiyya, Ibn Qayyim, Sayyid Rashid Rida, Hassan al-Banna, Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwi, Abul A'la Maududi and Naeem Siddiqui. He was also known for IslamOnline, a website he helped to found in 1997 and for which he served as chief religious scholar.

There are two official holidays in Islam that are celebrated by Muslims worldwide: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. The timing of both holidays are set by the lunar Islamic calendar, which is based upon the cycle of the moon, and so is different from the more common, European, solar-based Gregorian calendar. Every year, the Gregorian dates of the Islamic holidays change.
Islam Channel is a UK-based, free-to-air, English language, Islamic-focused satellite television channel and online media platform funded by advertising and donations. It was founded in 2004 by Mohamed Ali Harrath, a Tunisian activist and businessman; his son, Mohamed Harrath, is now its chief executive officer. It was reported in 2008 that UK government research found that 59% of British Muslims watched the channel. It broadcasts across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and is streamed live on the internet. Islam Channel began broadcasting in March 2004 on Sky Digital channel 836, but subsequently moved to channel 813, then 806, now 737. In April 2010, it launched on Freesat channel 693. In 2015, Islam Channel Urdu was launched. In 2017, both channels launched on Virgin Media; Islam Channel can be watched on 838 and Islam Channel Urdu on 839. In 2018, Islam Channel Urdu was subsequently moved to channel 851, then 766, now 755. On 18 October 2022, Islam Channel Bangla was launched on Sky 784.

Ṣadaqah in the modern Islamic context has come to signify "voluntary charity". According to the Quran, the word means a voluntary offering, whose amount is at the will of the benefactor. It is similar to zakat, or compulsory giving, one of the five pillars of Islam.
Channel S is a UK-based, free-to-air television channel targeting the British Bangladeshi community. The channel was established on 16 December 2004 by Mahee Ferdous Jalil, a Bangladeshi businessman in London. On Sky it at first had a timesharing deal with ATN Global, and then in 2005 began to broadcast for 24 hours, 7 days a week; it is currently available on Sky channel 777. The channel claims to be the "Voice of British Bangladeshis across the world", showing programmes suiting community needs. Its slogan is "Working for the community".
In Islam, Zakat al-Fitr, also known as Sadaqat al-Fitr or Zakat al-Fitrah, is a form of alms-giving which Islam considers required of every able Muslim at the end of Ramadan. The purpose of Zakat al-Fitr is to enable poor people to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the festival to break the fast of Ramadan.

Maher Zain is a Lebanese-Swedish R&B singer, songwriter and music producer. He released his debut album Thank You Allah, an internationally successful album produced by Awakening Records, in 2009. He released his follow-up album Forgive Me in April 2012 under the same production company, and a third album One in 2016.
Al-Khair Foundation (AKF) is an international Muslim aid NGO based in the United Kingdom and Turkey, and is the third largest Muslim charity in the UK. It was established in 2003, and aims to deliver aid to the poor and vulnerable, as well as education for the Muslim community. It specialises in humanitarian support, international development, emergency aid and disaster relief in some of the world's most deprived areas.
Qasim Rashid Ahmad is the founder and chairman of Al-Khair Foundation (AKF), and also the CEO of IQRA TV. Since 2003, Ahmad has managed AKF from concept to delivery of projects, from fundraising to feedback reports, managing donors, staff and volunteers around the world.
Abdur Rahman ibn Yusuf Mangera is a Sunni Islamic scholar, author, and founder of Whitethread Institute and Zamzam Academy. He authored Fiqh al-Imam and Healthy Muslim Marriage. He was featured in the 2020 edition of The 500 Most Influential Muslims compiled by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre.
