Messenger is Edwin McCain's third major-label album, released on June 15, 1999. It was recorded at Tree Sound Studios & Southern Tracks in Atlanta, and Record Plant Studios in Los Angeles, and released by Lava Records.
All tracks composed by McCain except "A Prayer to St. Peter," composed by John Gorka (actually called "Let Them In" on his 2001 CD entitled The Company You Keep), and "I Could Not Ask for More" composed by Diane Warren.

Peter Case is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. His career is wide-ranging, from rock n' roll and blues, to folk rock and solo acoustic performance.
Edwin Cole McCain is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. His songs "I'll Be" (1998) and "I Could Not Ask for More" (1999) were radio top-40 hits in the U.S., and five of his albums have reached the Billboard 200. In all, McCain has released eleven albums, with his first two being released independently.
So Much Water So Close to Home is an album by Australian rock band Paul Kelly and the Messengers and was originally released in August 1989. The title comes from a short story of the same name by author Raymond Carver. Carver died in August 1988. Kelly co-wrote the score for the 2006 Australian film Jindabyne, which was also based on the same story. The entire album was recorded in the U.S. with producer Scott Litt, best known for his work with R.E.M. It was released on Mushroom/White Records in Australia and A&M Records in the United States. The album peaked at #10 on the ARIA album charts, but none of its singles, "Sweet Guy", "Careless" and "Most Wanted Man in the World" had any Top 40 chart success. All tracks for the album were written by Kelly, who provided vocals, guitar and harmonica and also co-produced with Litt.
Wanted Man is a folk rock album by Paul Kelly and was originally released in July 1994. It was issued on Mushroom Records in Australia and was Kelly's first solo studio album after disbanding his previous group, The Messengers. Tracks 1–10 were recorded at three Los Angeles studios while tracks 11–13 were recorded in Melbourne. It was produced by Kelly, Randy Jacobs and David Bridie. The cover art for Wanted Man is a colophon rendering of Australia's legendary outlaw Ned Kelly as a guitarist and was painted by David Band.
Misguided Roses is singer/guitarist Edwin McCain's second album released by Lava Records. It was originally issued on June 24, 1997. "I'll Be", a very successful single in 1998, came from this record. Although "I'll Be" was the only successful single from the album, the track "See the Sky Again" also received some airplay. The album was recorded at the House of Therm Studios and Love Grotto, both in Nashville, Tennessee, and Doppler Studios in Atlanta, Georgia.
Far From Over, Edwin McCain's fourth album, was the last album of his to be released by Lava Records, about six months before he was dropped from their roster. It was issued on June 19, 2001. It was recorded at Pedernales Studios in Austin, Texas.
Scream & Whisper is Edwin McCain's sixth studio album, released on June 22, 2004 by DRT Entertainment, McCain's second label in as many years. The album was his first new release in three years, and was recorded at Sonica Studios, Atlanta, Georgia, and Dirtmachine Studios in Studio City, California.

"I'll Be" is a song written and performed by American singer Edwin McCain. The song was released on September 8, 1998, as the first single from his second album, Misguided Roses (1997). McCain recorded an acoustic version of the song for his follow-up album, Messenger. The radio version of "I'll Be", which was released on a CD single with "Grind Me in the Gears" as the B-side, differs from the album version. Its opening melody is played with electric guitar and the vocal and saxophone lines differ. Upon its release, the song reached number five in the United States and number 52 in Canada.
