Michael Barnes was the mayor pro tempore of Charlotte,North Carolina. He also served as acting mayor for a short time following the resignation of former mayor Patrick Cannon,who was arrested on March 26,2014 for corruption charges. [2] [3] [4] Barnes immediately became acting mayor upon Cannon's resignation. The City Council was then required to appoint a mayor to serve out the remainder of Cannon's term (through Dec. 2015). [5] On April 7,the council voted to appoint Dan Clodfelter,a state senator,as the new mayor.
Barnes,an attorney and a member of the Democratic Party,served as a member of the Charlotte City Council representing District 4 for four terms until he was elected to an at-large seat in the 2013 election. Following that election,he was chosen as the new mayor pro tem by his colleagues. [6]
In 2015,Barnes declined to run for re-election for his City Council seat and instead pursued the Democratic nomination for Mayor of Charlotte. He placed fourth in the primary,losing to former Chair of the Mecklenburg County Commission Jennifer Roberts,and left City Council in December 2015. [7] He was succeed as Mayor Pro Tem by at-large City Council member Vi Lyles.

Daniel G. Clodfelter is an American politician and attorney from North Carolina. He served as a Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly representing the State's thirty-seventh Senate district,which includes constituents in Mecklenburg County,from January 1999 through April 8,2014,when he resigned after being appointed Mayor of Charlotte,North Carolina.

Cammarano was arrested by the FBI on corruption charges on July 23,2009,as part of an international criminal investigation known as Operation Bid Rig;he resigned from office eight days later. He pleaded guilty to extortion in April 2010 and was later sentenced to 24 months in federal prison.

On March 26,2014,Cannon was arrested on charges of accepting over $48,000 in bribes from undercover FBI agents posing as businessmen wanting to work with the city. Cannon resigned as mayor later that evening,and was later sentenced to 44 months in prison.

The Lynx Blue Line is a light rail line in Charlotte,North Carolina,United States. Opened in 2007,it was the first rail line of the Charlotte Area Transit System,and the first major rapid rail service of any kind in the state. The 26-station,19.3-mile (31.1 km) line extends from its northern terminus at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in University City through NoDa,Uptown,and South End,then runs along South Boulevard to its southern terminus just north of Interstate 485 at the Pineville city limits. The line carries an average of over 27,700 passenger trips every day and offers connections to the CATS' CityLynx Gold Line which opened in 2015.
