Michael C. Thompson is a retired United States General Officer and Oklahoma Army National Guard member who served as the 21st Adjutant General of Oklahoma from 2017 to 2021. [1] He was a Major General in the United States Army National Guard [2] and was a member of the Oklahoma Governor's Cabinet.
Thompson previously served concurrently as the Oklahoma Secretary of Safety and Security and the Commissioner of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety. In his capacity as Public Safety Commissioner,Thompson also was in charge of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. As Safety and Security secretary,he was a member of the Oklahoma Governor's Cabinet and was responsible for directing all state public safety,law enforcement and corrections agencies. [3]

Thompson earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Langston University,and a Master of Science from Oklahoma State University. Thompson is a graduate of the resident Army War College,where he earned a second graduate degree,a Master of Strategic Studies. Thompson has been accepted in,and has completed course work towards a doctorate degree at Oklahoma State University. Thompson is a graduate of the 208th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico,Va for senior law enforcement officials. Thompson also is a graduate of the Certified Public Manager’s Program offered by Oklahoma’s office of Personnel Management,a member of Leadership Oklahoma class XXVI and most recently has been recognized as a Henry Toll Fellow through the Council of State Government.
Thompson graduated from the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety's 45th Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy in 1990. He served 22 years with the Patrol,eventually rising to the rank of major. While serving as a patrol major,Thompson was appointed by Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin as Cabinet Secretary and DPS Commissioner in February 2011. [4]
Thompson began his military career when he enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard on December 13,1983 in Oklahoma City. Thompson received his commission in 1986 through Officer Candidate School as an infantry second lieutenant. Thompson is currently assigned as the chief of staff for the Oklahoma Army National Guard. Thompson’s awards include the Legion of Merit,two Bronze Star Medals,Defense Meritorious Service Medal,three Meritorious Service Medals,Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal,Air Assault Badge,Combat Action Badge,and the Combat Infantry Badge. In 2012,Thompson joined the prestigious ranks as a Council of State Governments' Henry Toll Fellow honoree.
Thompson lives in Edmond,Oklahoma,with his wife,Deborah Thompson. The Thompsons have two sons. Their oldest,Brandon Thompson,is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and is a captain in the United States Army. Their youngest son,1st Lieutenant Jared Thompson,is a helicopter pilot with the Oklahoma Army National Guard. Lieutenant Jared Thompson is also an Iraqi and Afghan combat veteran.

The Oklahoma National Guard,a division of the Oklahoma Military Department,is the component of the United States National Guard in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It comprises both Army (OKARNG) and Air (OKANG) National Guard components. The Governor of Oklahoma is Commander-in-Chief of the Oklahoma National Guard when not on federal active duty. The state's highest-ranking military commander,the Adjutant General of Oklahoma (TAG),serves as the military head of the Guard and is second only to the Governor. The TAG is served by Assistant Adjutants General,all brigadier generals,from the OKARNG and OKANG. The two components each have a senior noncommissioned officer,State Command Sergeant Major for Army and State Command Chief Master Sergeant for Air. Captain Kevin Ward,OHP is an American police officer and politician from the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Ward previously served as the Oklahoma Secretary of Safety and Security,having been appointed by Governor of Oklahoma Brad Henry in 2004 and serving until 2011. Ward served concurrently as Oklahoma Commissioner of Public Safety.

General Deering was appointed by Governor of Oklahoma Brad Henry in 2009 following the promotion of Harry M. Wyatt III to the position of director,Air National Guard. On December 10,2010,Governor-elect Mary Fallin announced that she would retain General Deering in his position as adjutant general.
Kerry Pettingill is a retired American police officer in the state of Oklahoma. Pettingill joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and served as its 25th Chief from early 2011 until late 2013 when he retired during the term of Governor of Oklahoma Mary Fallin. Prior to his service as Chief,Pettingill served as the Director of the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security under Governor Brad Henry from 2004 to 2011.

John F. King is a retired American military officer and the state of Georgia's Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner. He was appointed by Governor Brian Kemp as commissioner on July 1,2019,replacing Jim Beck. Beck was elected in 2018,but suspended by Governor Kemp on May 16,2019,pending an investigation into allegations of illegal activity committed prior to his taking office. After Beck's conviction of 37 criminal counts of fraud and money laundering on July 22,2021,Beck was fully and immediately removed from office as per Georgia law,and King became the permanent insurance commissioner. King was re-elected to this position in 2022. King's appointment makes him the first Hispanic statewide official in Georgia's history. A native of Mexico,King is fluent in Spanish.
William Shaffer Key was a decorated officer of the United States Army with the rank of major general,and businessman. A member of the Oklahoma National Guard,he was called into federal service and participated in combat on the Western Front during World War I as the division quartermaster of 7th Division.
