Michael K. Colyar[ citation needed ] (born February 9, 1957) is an American actor, comedian, entertainer, voiceover artist, television/radio personality, and author.

Early life and education

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Colyar was raised in the Robert Taylor Homes public housing project and later relocated to the Morgan Park area. [1] [ citation needed ] Colyar attended Morgan Park High School, graduating in 1975. [2] Shortly after high school, Colyar attended Olive-Harvey junior college and later Chicago State University.[ citation needed ]

Other information

Colyar is the author of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to The White House, I Knocked on the Door and a Brother Answered, which was published in August 2012. Colyar began embarking on his 100 City tour of "Michael Colyar's Momma" in June 2018. [3] He has a starring role in the upcoming film "You Married Dat" alongside LisaRaye, Juhahn Jones, Apryl Jones, and Audra Kinkead.

Robert Taylor Homes was a public housing project in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois from 1962 to 2007. The largest housing project in the United States, it consisted of 28 virtually identical high-rises, set out in a linear plan for two miles, with the high-rises regularly configured in a horseshoe shape of three in each block. It was located along State Street between Pershing Road and 54th Street, east of the Dan Ryan Expressway. The project was named for Robert Rochon Taylor (1899–1957), an African-American activist and the first African American chairman of the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA). It was a part of the State Street Corridor which included other CHA housing projects: Stateway Gardens, Dearborn Homes, Harold Ickes Homes, and Hilliard Homes.

Douglas, on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, is one of Chicago's 77 community areas. The neighborhood is named for Stephen A. Douglas, Illinois politician and Abraham Lincoln's political foe, whose estate included a tract of land given to the federal government. This tract later was developed for use as the Civil War Union training and prison camp, Camp Douglas, located in what is now the eastern portion of the Douglas neighborhood. Douglas gave that part of his estate at Cottage Grove and 35th to the Old University of Chicago. Robert Townsend is an American actor, director, comedian, and writer. Townsend is best known for directing the films Hollywood Shuffle (1987), Eddie Murphy Raw (1987), The Meteor Man (1993), The Five Heartbeats (1991) and various other films and stand-up specials. He is especially known for his portrayal of The WB's sitcom The Parent 'Hood 's main character Robert Peterson, the series he created and directed select episodes of ran from 1995 to 1999. Townsend is also known for his role as Donald "Duck" Matthews in his 1991 film The Five Heartbeats. He later wrote, directed and produced Making the Five Heartbeats (2018), a documentary film about the production process and behind the scenes insight into creating the film. Townsend is also known for his production company Townsend Entertainment which has produced films Playin' for Love, In the Hive and more. During the 1980s and early–1990s, Townsend gained national exposure through his stand-up comedy routines and appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Townsend has worked with talent including Halle Berry, Morgan Freeman, Chris Tucker, Beyoncé, Denzel Washington, Ayo Edebiri, and many more.

After years of declining enrollment and low academic performance, the school closed after the 2017–2018 school year and was later demolished in September 2018.
