Michael Nielsen (born 3 August 1975 in Roskilde) is a Danish sport shooter. [2] He won a silver medal in skeet shooting at the 2003 European Championships in Brno, Czech Republic, and eventually finished seventh at the 2004 Summer Olympics, competing for the Danish team. [1] Nielsen trains under longtime coach Kjild Fristrup as a member of the shooting team at SK København. [3]
Nielsen qualified for the Danish team in the men's skeet at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He had eclipsed a minimum qualifying score of 124 to strike a silver-medal finish and to grab one of the Olympic quota places available at the European Championships less than a year earlier. [4] [5] Clearly one of the top favorites vying for an Olympic medal, Nielsen nailed 122 targets out of a possible 125 to force a third-place tie with four other shooters in the qualifying round, but fell abruptly in a tight duel to neighboring Norway's Harald Jensen 2 to 1, who coveted the last seed for the six-man Olympic final, relegating him to seventh. Nielsen is also married to pistol shooter and three-time Olympian Susanne Meyerhoff. [8]
Denmark competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark sent the nation's second largest delegation to the Games after the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. A total of 113 athletes, 63 men and 50 women, competed in 17 sports, although two additional athletes played as team reserves. Handball was the only team-based sport in which Denmark was represented in at these Olympic games.
Torben Grimmel is a Danish sport shooter. Specialising in the ISSF 50m prone rifle event, Grimmel won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. He was the European Junior Champion in 1995. As of 2023 he has won fourteen ISSF World Cup medals, and two ISSF World Cup finals.
Pak Jong-ran is a North Korean sport shooter. She won two gold medals in the women's skeet at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, China, and at the 1991 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Perth, Western Australia, with scores of 197 and 191 targets, respectively.

Andrea Stranovská is a Slovak sport shooter. She produced a career tally of two medals at the World Championships, and was selected to compete for Slovakia in two editions of the Olympic Games. Having started the sport since the age of 14, Stranovska trained as a member of the shooting team for the Slovak Republic State Sport Representation Centre of Interior Ministry in Bratislava under personal coach Juraj Sedlak.
Maarit Hillevi Lepomäki is a Finnish sport shooter. She produced a career tally of nine medals, including a silver in skeet shooting at the 2004 ISSF World Cup final in Maribor, Slovenia, and was selected to compete for Finland in two editions of the Olympic Games.
Connie Jean Smotek is an American sport shooter. She produced a career tally of eleven medals, including two in skeet shooting at the World Championships, and was selected to compete for the U.S. team in two editions of the Olympic Games. Having pursued the sport since the age of fourteen, Smotek trained full-time as a member of the skeet team for Brazos Valley Skeet and Trap Club in College Station, Texas, under her personal coach Lloyd Woodhouse. Smotek is also a graduate of Texas A&M University, and has been employed as an administrative assistant by the University's agriculture program since 1995.
Ri Hyon-ok is a North Korean sport shooter. She won a bronze medal in skeet shooting at the 2007 Asian Shooting Championships in Kuwait City, Kuwait, and finished seventh at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Hendrikus "Hennie" Dompeling was a Dutch sport shooter. He was born in Haarlemmermeer. He has competed for the Netherlands in skeet shooting at five Olympics, and has been close to an Olympic medal in 2000. Outside the Olympic career, Dompeling has produced a phenomenal record of twenty-one medals in a major international competition: two bronze at the World Championships, a total of four at the ISSF World Cup final, a total of nine at numerous ISSF World Cup meets, and a total of six under both junior and senior category at the European Championships.
Andrzej Głyda is a Polish sport shooter. He was selected to compete for Poland in two editions of the Olympic Games, and eventually won two career medals, a gold and a silver, in a major international competition, spanning the World and European Championships. Głyda is a member of the shooting team for WSK Śląsk Wrocław, and a resident athlete of the Polish Sport Shooting Federation, where he trains throughout his sporting career under head coach and 1976 Olympic bronze medalist Wiesław Gawlikowski.
Amr El-Gaiar is an Egyptian sport shooter. He was selected to compete for Egypt at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and also won a gold medal in skeet shooting at the 2003 African Championships in Pretoria, South Africa. A full-fledged member of the Egyptian Shooting Federation, El-Gaiar trains under national head coach and five-time Olympian Mohamed Khorshed at Doki Shooting Club in his native Cairo.
Sergey Vladimirovich Aksyutin is a Russian sport shooter. He was selected to compete for Russia at the 2004 Summer Olympics and eventually claimed his only individual medal with a bronze in skeet shooting at the 2006 ISSF World Cup meet in Qingyuan, China. A full-fledged resident athlete of the Shooting Union of Russia, Aksyutin trained throughout his sporting career under head coach Yury Kashuba at SK Sibakademstroy in Novosibirsk.
Mirela Skoko-Ćelić is a Croatian sport shooter. She has competed for Croatia in pistol shooting at three Olympics, and has been close to an Olympic medal in 1992. Outside her Olympic career, Skoko-Celic has produced a career tally of five medals in a major international competition, a total of three at numerous meets of the ISSF World Cup series and a silver in the air pistol at the 2002 European Championships.
Susanne Maria Meyerhoff is a Danish sport shooter. She has competed for Denmark in pistol shooting at three Olympics, and has recorded a career tally of eighteen medals in a major international competition, a total of seven under both junior and senior categories at the European Championships, a total of ten at numerous meets of the ISSF World Cup series, and a silver as a junior at the 1994 ISSF World Championships in Milan, Italy.
Peter Thuesen is a Danish sport shooter. He has been selected to compete for Denmark in air rifle shooting at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and has won two medals, gold and silver, in a major international competition, spanning the European Championships and the ISSF World Cup series. Thuesen trains under head coach Klaus Christensen for the national team at a rifle shooting academy in Aarhus.
Dina Hosny Abdel-Aziz is an Egyptian sport shooter. She has been selected to compete for Egypt in air rifle shooting at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and has won two medals, a silver and bronze, at the African Championships. Hosny trains under head coach Mohamed Fayek for the national shooting team, while serving full-time for the Egyptian Army.
Ann Spejlsgaard is a Danish sport shooter. She has been selected to compete for Denmark in air rifle shooting at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and has finished ninth twice in a major international competition, spanning the ISSF World Cup series and the World Championships. Spejlsgaard trains under head coach Klaus Christensen for the national team, while shooting in Vissenbjerg.
Alexia Smirli is a Greek sport shooter. She was selected as one of eleven shooters to represent the host nation Greece at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, and had attained a top nine finish in a major international competition, spanning the ISSF World Cup series and the European Championships. Smirli trains under Russian-born head coach Anna Pelova for the national team, while shooting at Maroussi Paradise Athletics Club on the outskirts of Athens.
Denmark competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Danish athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis. Before the start of the games, DIF sat an official medal goal of 8–10 medals for the Tokyo games.
