Mickey Leland College Preparatory Academy for Young Men (MLCPA), originally Young Men's College Preparatory Academy at E. O. Smith (YMCPA), is a university preparatory secondary school for boys in the Fifth Ward, Houston, Texas. It is a part of the Houston Independent School District. It is named after Mickey Leland.
The school opened in August, 2011 for the 6th and 9th grades, and would gradually become a middle and high school. It first opened in the E.O. Smith Education Center campus in the Fifth Ward. The district modeled the school off of the Chicago Urban Prep Academy in Chicago. The school has admission requirements. [1] It later moved to the former Crawford Elementary School, [2] [3] [4] in both the Fifth Ward and in Northside. [5]
Some Fifth Ward community members expressed disappointment that the previous E.O. Smith students would be displaced by the opening of the new magnet school. [1]
The HISD board approved the renaming of the school to Leland College Preparatory Academy in 2014. [6]
HISD built the permanent Leland school on the site of the former Carter Career Center, which once served as Wheatley High School and E.O. Smith. The new building used a similar architectural style to the original. [7] A grand opening ceremony was held in 2017. [8]

Barbara Jordan Career Center, formerly Barbara Jordan High School for Careers, is a public vocational school center at 5800 Eastex Freeway in Houston, Texas, United States. It is a part of the Houston Independent School District. Prior to July 1, 2018, the school served as its own self-contained secondary school. Since June 2018, Jordan is a regional career education hub for students enrolled at other HISD high schools. When it was its own high school it had a program for high school-aged deaf pupils.
Contemporary Learning Center (CLC) was a secondary school located in Houston, Texas, United States. CLC closed in 2011. It was replaced by DeVry Advantage Academy, operated in association with DeVry University.

The school covered grades Pre-Kindergarten 4-12. The school initially defied an order to close from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). In 2011 it merged with Leader's Academy High School for Business and Academic Success into Victory Preparatory Academy.
Young Women's College Preparatory Academy (YWCPA) is a secondary school for girls in Houston, Texas that is a part of the Houston Independent School District. It opened in 2011 in the former Contemporary Learning Center (CLC) building.

DeVry Advantage Academy and CLC at H.P. Carter was a high school in the Fifth Ward of Houston, Texas, operated in conjunction with DeVry University. It was in the former Carter Career Center/Wheatley High School/E.O. Smith Education Center building. The school offered students the opportunity to receive a high school diploma and a degree in web graphic design at the same time. It opened in 2011 and closed in 2012.
Girls and Boys Preparatory Academy (GBPA) was a K-12 state-chartered primary and secondary school located in Greater Sharpstown, Houston, Texas. It operated from 1995, making it one of the first Texas charter schools, to 2015.
Baylor College of Medicine Academy at Ryan (BCMAR) is a magnet middle school in Houston Independent School District (HISD), located in the Third Ward, Houston, Texas. It is located in the former Ryan Middle School. It is in association with the Baylor College of Medicine. It is south of Downtown Houston, A press release stated that the school was to be modeled after the Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions.
Victory Preparatory Academy or Victory Prep (VPREP) was a charter school in Houston, Texas that had two campuses: one in the city's south, Victory Preparatory Academy South; and a northern campus, Victory Preparatory Academy North. The system all together served grades K-12 and was operated by the nonprofit organization Management Accountability Corp. It closed in 2018.
The Lawson Academy, formerly WALIPP-TSU Preparatory Academy, is a charter middle school in the Third Ward area of Houston, Texas. It was established as waves of single sex public schools opened in American inner city communities circa the 2000s.
