Mimemodes is a genus of beetles in the family Monotomidae, containing the following species: [1]
Beetles are a group of insects that form the order Coleoptera, in the superorder Endopterygota. Their front pair of wings are hardened into wing-cases, elytra, distinguishing them from most other insects. The Coleoptera, with about 400,000 species, is the largest of all orders, constituting almost 40% of described insects and 25% of all known animal life-forms; new species are discovered frequently. The largest of all families, the Curculionidae (weevils) with some 80,000 member species, belongs to this order. Found in almost every habitat except the sea and the polar regions, they interact with their ecosystems in several ways: beetles often feed on plants and fungi, break down animal and plant debris, and eat other invertebrates. Some species are serious agricultural pests, such as the Colorado potato beetle, while others such as Coccinellidae eat aphids, scale insects, thrips, and other plant-sucking insects that damage crops.
Monotomidae is a family of beetles in the suborder Polyphaga, containing the following genera:
Cucujoidea is a superfamily of beetles. They include many fungus beetles, as well as lady beetles. Also included are a diversity of lineages of "bark beetles" unrelated to the "true" bark beetles (Scolytinae), which are weevils.
Erotylidae, or the pleasing fungus beetles, is a family of beetles containing over 100 genera. In the present circumscription, it includes the subfamilies Dacninae, Encaustinae, Erotylinae, Megalodacninae, and Tritominae. In other words, the narrowly circumscribed Erotylidae correspond to the subfamily Erotylinae in the definition sensu lato. They feed on plant and fungal matter; some are important pollinators, while a few have gained notoriety as pests of some significance. Sometimes, useful and harmful species are found in one genus, e.g. Pharaxonotha. Most pleasing fungus beetles, however, are inoffensive animals of little significance to humans.
Jacobsoniidae is a family of beetles. The larvae and adults live under bark, in plant litter, fungi, bat guano and rotten wood. It is a small family with 23 described species in three genera:
Byturidae, also known as Fruitworms, is a very small family of beetles, in the suborder Polyphaga, comprising fewer than 20 species worldwide. The larvae of some species develop in fruits. Byturus unicolor affects species of Rubus and Geum.
Biphyllus is a genus of beetles in the family Biphyllidae, containing the following species:
Placonotus is a genus of beetles in the family Laemophloeidae. There are 40 currently recognized species, known from all continents except Antarctica. Placonotus species are small (~2mm), elongate, flattened beetles, characterized by long filiform antennae, presence of a frontoclypeal suture, open anterior coxal cavities, and broadly rounded intercoxal process of abdominal ventrite III. Males have the 8th abdominal segment modified to form claspers used during mating. Adults and larvae are found under dead bark, where they feed on fungi. Currently recognized species are:
Dienerella is a genus of beetles in the family Latridiidae, containing the following species:
Stephostethus is a genus of beetles in the family Latridiidae, containing the following species:
Psammoecus is a genus of beetles in the family Silvanidae, containing the following species:
Protosilvanus is a genus of beetles in the family Silvanidae, containing the following species:
Silvanoprus is a genus of beetles in the family Silvanidae, containing the following species:
Silvanus is a genus of beetles in the family Silvanidae, containing the following species:
Bactridium is a genus of root-eating beetles in the family Monotomidae. There are about 18 described species in Bactridium.
Europs is a genus of beetles in the family Monotomidae, containing the following species:
Monotoma is a genus of beetles in the family Monotomidae, containing the following species:
Rhizophagus is a genus of beetles in the family Monotomidae, containing the following species:
Arunus is a genus of beetles in the family Monotomidae, containing the following species:
Cybocephalus is a genus of beetles in the family Cybocephalidae, previously belonging to the subfamily Cybocephalinae of the family Nitidulidae.
Pediacus is the largest genus in the family Cucujidae. It contains 31 currently recognized species. Pediacus adults are relatively small (2.7-7.0mm), flattened brownish beetles with no or very small temples, and short antennae with a distinct club. Male genitalia are inverted and possess a short flagellum.
