The football rivalry between Mindelense and Académica do Mindelo is the second largest rivalry in the island of São Vicente and one of the largest in Cape Verde. It is also one of the longest rivalries, and is one of the three Mindelo derbies (Derby do Mindelo), also called or the São Vicente derbies (Derby de São Vicente).

Clube Sportivo Mindelense (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: KS Mindelensi, São Vicente Crioulo: KS Mindelense is a football club that plays in the Premier division of the Interisland League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of Mindelo in the island of São Vicente. Mindelense is the oldest club in Cape Verde. It is the team won the most cups before and after independence especially in the 1950s and the 1970s with nine titles before independence and eleven after independence. Their first participation in the national division before independence was unofficially in 1938 and officially in 1954, Mindelense first appeared after independence in 1980. Since 30 April 2017, they are one of three unrelegated clubs in the island along with Batuque and Derby. Its current chairman is Daniel de Jesus. The club's nickname is Leões Encarnados or the Incarnated Lions. A nickname that is used less often is the Red Devils or the Diablos Vermelhos.
Associação Académica do Mindelo is a football club that had played in the Premier division and the São Vicente Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of Mindelo on the island of São Vicente and plays in a stadium with a capacity of 5,000. The club is an affiliate of the Portuguese club Académica de Coimbra. It is one of the first teams ever to win a provincial title before independence, in 1953, a year later. There was no further competition until 1956. Académica won their first title since independence in 1989. Other titles includes four for the island including their recent 2006/07 season win and two opening tournaments along with their recent win.
After Académica Mindelo was founded in the 1940s, there had been around 100 matches that featured Mindelense and Derby, there were also around 110 matches with the cup and opening tournament/association cup competitions.
At the 1989 Cape Verdean Football Championships, it was the only time that the rivalry was taken to the national level and occurred at the semis, two matches ended in a draw, the first leg was scoreless and the second was a goal draw probably Académica advanced under the away goals rule into the finals where they would win their only national title. The Cape Verdean Football Championship or the Campeonato Caboverdiano de Futebol is a football competition that was created in 1976 in Cape Verde. A local championship was founded in 1953 before independence, when the islands were still part of the Portuguese Empire.
Académica Mindelo was relegated in the early 2010s and remained until April 2014, during that time, the rivalry was absent. In 2015 as Académica won the division decisional matches in mid-2015, the rivalry with Mindelense kept going.
The rivalry is also cultural, nearly similar to Mindelense's rivalry with Derby. Académica Mindelo is an affiliate to Académica de Coimbra in Portugal.

The rivalry is the longest in Cape Verde.
Mindelense the most successful football (sooccer) club in Cape Verde, [2] having won about 82 official titles (12 national and 70 regional) compared to Academica's 17 official titles (4 national and 13 regional). On the other hand, Mindelense participated in African competitions (no Capeverdean team has ever won an African title) where they scored two goals, Mindelense first appeared in the 1993 African Cup of Champion's Clubs. Académica Mindelo has never appeared in the continentals.
