The 2011 Cape Verdean Football Championship final was the final of the 2011 Cape Verdean Football Championships, which was the 32nd edition of the Cape Verdean Football Championships and 25th with the knockout stage. [1]

The 2011 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 32nd of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 14 May and finished on 9 July, later than last year. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. CS Mindelense won the 2011 title. No teams would participate in the 2012 CAF Champions League or the 2012 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Cape Verdean Football Championship or the Campeonato Caboverdiano de Futebol is a football competition that was created in 1976 in Cape Verde. A local championship was founded in 1953 before independence, when the islands were still part of the Portuguese Empire.

RTC (Cape Verde)

The Radiotelevisão Caboverdiana is Cape Verde's first radio and television station broadcasting local programs from Cape Verde, Portugal and Brazil as well as the rest of the world especially France. It is a publicly owned company and enterprise and is located in the Capeverdean capital city of Praia, in the southern part in the middle of Achada Santo António RTC also has a few buildings, it also has offices in São Vicente, Sal, São Filipe on Fogo Island and Assomada in Santa Catarina. The building size is very small, only like local affiliates in North America as well as Latin America, Australia and Europe. The radio building is in the south on Rua 13 de Janeiro and the television station is in the north. Its current president is José Emanuel Tavares Moreira/

The final was played between CS Mindelense from São Vicente and Sporting from Praia. The winners did not compete into the Cape Verdean Super Cup and the 2012 CAF Champions League in the following season, primarily due to its schedule, a part of it, the regional championship and cup competitions within it.

CS Mindelense

Clube Sportivo Mindelense (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: KS Mindelensi, São Vicente Crioulo: KS Mindelense is a football club that plays in the Premier division of the Interisland League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of Mindelo in the island of São Vicente. Mindelense is the oldest club in Cape Verde. It is the team won the most cups before and after independence especially in the 1950s and the 1970s with nine titles before independence and eleven after independence. Their first participation in the national division before independence was unofficially in 1938 and officially in 1954, Mindelense first appeared after independence in 1980. Since 30 April 2017, they are one of three unrelegated clubs in the island along with Batuque and Derby. Its current chairman is Daniel de Jesus. The club's nickname is Leões Encarnados or the Incarnated Lions. A nickname that is used less often is the Red Devils or the Diablos Vermelhos.

Sporting Clube da Praia

Sporting Clube da Praia, short form: Sporting Praia is a professional football club that plays in the Santiago South Premier Division in Cape Verde. It is based in the capital city of Praia in the island of Santiago, one of the unrelegated clubs in the south of the island along with three of the city's four historically mightiest clubs including Académica, Boavista and CD Travadores. Along with Académcia, Boavista, Desportivo, Travadores and Vitória, it is one of several teams that share the same ground, Estádio da Várzea, which has a capacity of 8,000. Sporting has won six championships since independence and a few before independence. The first title was won in the summer of 1962 before independence. Sporting recently won the 2017 national title. Its current president is Carlos Daniel Caetano and its manager is Lito, who once played for Portuguese clubs as footballer.

The 2012 CAF Champions League was the 48th edition of Africa's premier club football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the 16th edition under the current CAF Champions League format.

The 2011 football championship final was Mindelense's was their tenth appearance in their 91 year history and Sporting Praia's eleventh appearance which was also their sixth consecutive in their 88 years of existence.

Background

At group stage, both were participants of Group A, they qualified into the semis and placed in different parts, the two advanced to the finals.

CS Mindelense had reached the national championship final ten times, winning seven of them. The last time they won a championship title was in 1998 as they won with the total number of points in the last part of the triangular phase. On the other hand, Sporting Praia had reached the national championship final 12 times, 11 with the playoff stage winning eight of them. The last time they won a champion title was last season in 2010.

Académica do Fogo had never competed in a national championship final match.

Mindelense won their 8th national football championship title.

The championship was governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. The scheduling was completed on November 16 and the group system was kept insteading of becoming a one portion season without playoffs and was the last time. CS Mindelense won the record breaking title and became the second club after Sporting Praia to win four in a row, the highest ever, also it was Mindelense's last. Mindelense chose to not participate in the CAF Champions League competition in 2017, Académica do Porto Novo did not participate in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup, both of the clubs due to financial concerns, of any club, it is the eighth consecutive time and becomes the recent African nation not to bring a champion to the continentals for the most consecutive years, in the cup competition, Cape Verde is the longest for not bringing a club in Africa lasting for more than 15 years straight, not even the three national cup winners competed. Mindelense qualfiied and participated in the 2017 National Championships.

The Cape Verdean Super Cup is a Super Cup competition played during the season in Cape Verde. The competition is governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF). The national championship winner competes with the cup winner, in the 2014 edition, the 2013 super cup winner played with the 2014 national champion. The first super cup competition began in 2013 which took place on 1 May and the last one took place in 2014 which took place on 30 April. The regional champion competes with the cup champion. Sometimes, if a champion also has a cup title, a cup club who is runner-up qualifies which never did. since 2017, it is the only competition of any level where a cup-runner up never competed.

The 2014 Cape Verdean Super Cup was an annual and a single knockout match featuring the winner of the 2013 championship CS Mindelense and instead of a cup winner as no cup competition was held in 2013, a super cup winner of 2013, Sporting Praia. The Super Cup featured the national rivalry between Mindelense and Sporting.

The 2018 Cape Verdean Football Championship season is the 39th beginner level competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Also it was another season that it was sponsored by a clothing company Tecnicil, it was also known as the 2018 Cape Verdean Tecnicil football season or the 2018 Tecnicil Football Championships. The championship was governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. The season began earlier started on 7 April 2018 and finished on 2 June.
