The Ministry of Education and Science (Polish: Ministerstwo Edukacji i Nauki, MEiN) was a ministry of the Government of Poland, which administrated the science and education. It functioned from 2005 to 2006, and again from 2021 to 2023.

History

The Ministry of Education and Science of Poland was established on 31 October 2005 by the cabinet of Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz. It took over the divisions of the Ministry of National Education and Computerisation, responsible for higher education, science, and computerisation. [1] On 5 May 2006, the ministry was divided into the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of National Education. [2] Throughout its existence, its only minister was Michał Seweryński. [3]

On 1 January 2021, the second cabinet of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki reastablished the Ministry of Education and Science, via reincorporating together the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of National Education. Its headquarters were located at 1 and 3 Wspólna Street in Warsaw, Poland. [4] Przemysław Czarnek became the minister, and was replaced by Krzysztof Szczucki on 27 November 2023. [5] [6]

On 13 December 2023, under the third cabinet of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the role of the minister was divided into two offices, with Barbara Nowacka becoming the Minister of Education, and Dariusz Wieczorek, the Ministry of Science. [7] On 1 January 2024, in accordance with the resolution of 16 December 2023, children's education and university education were split, returning to the older division of the two ministries as the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, with Nowacka and Wieczorek as ministers, respectively. The two were created in May 2006 by splitting the Ministry of Education and Science. In January 2021, the two were merged, only to be separated again in 2024.

The Minister of Science and Higher Education administers governmental activities in science and higher education and has a budget for scientific research provided by State funds. The Rada Nauki acts together with the Minister, in replacement of the Komitet Badań Naukowych which was closed in 2005. The headquarters of the ministry are located at ulica Wspólna 1/3, Warsaw.

The Ministry of Regional Development was a ministerial department within the government of Poland. The ministry was created under the premiership of Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz on 31 October 2005, having its functions devolved from the previous Ministry of Economy and Labour. The department was merged with the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Marine Economy in November 2013 under Prime Minister Donald Tusk, creating the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ministry of Digital Affairs</span> Ministry of the Polish government

The Ministry of Digital Affairs is a ministry of the Polish government founded in December 2015, dissolved in October 2020 and founded again in May 2023. Split from the Ministry of Administration and Digitization, the Ministry is responsible for matters regarding development in the cyber sphere for Poland. The first Minister of Digital Affairs was Anna Streżyńska. After she was recalled on 9 January 2018, the Ministry was under personal supervision of the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki until 17 April 2018 when Marek Zagórski was appointed the Minister of Digital Affairs. The ministry was made defunct in 2020 following a Council of Ministers decree. The Ministry is functioning again since 1 May 2023 following a Council of Ministers decree.

Ministry of Economic Development was the office of government in Poland responsible for economy and regional development. Mateusz Morawiecki was the last Minister of Development.
