The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development (MLHUD), is a cabinet-level government ministry of Uganda. It is responsible for "policy direction, national standards and coordination of all matters concerning lands, housing and urban development".^[1] The ministry is headed by a cabinet minister, currently Judith Nabakooba.^[2]

Location

The headquarters of the ministry are located at 13-15 Parliament Avenue, in the Central Division of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city.^[3] The coordinates of the ministry headquarters are 0°18'51.0"N, 32°35'16.0"E (Latitude:0.314167; Longitude:32.587778).^[4]

Tasks

In February 2010, the government of Uganda, in partnership with Thomson Reuters and with funding from the World Bank, began implementation of the Land information System. The system involves the digitization of Uganda's land registry, beginning with key geographical and administrative areas and then rolling the program out to include the entire country. This has improved the country's rank in the ease of doing business and has shortened turn-around times in processes like obtaining a mortgage, selling and buying land, and performing land surveys.^[5]

Daudi Migereko was the minister of lands, housing and urban development in the cabinet of Uganda. He was appointed to that position on 27 May 2011. He replaced Omara Atubo, who was dropped from the cabinet. In the cabinet reshuffle of 2016, the president dropped him from this position and replaced him with Betty Amongi. From 16 February 2009 until 27 May 2011, he served as the government's chief whip in the parliament of Uganda. Before that, he was the minister of energy and mineral development in the cabinet. Migereko also represented Butembe County, Jinja District in the parliament from 2006 to 2016, a position he surrendered to Nelson Lufafa who won the seat in the 2016 General Elections.

Michael Werikhe Kafabusa, commonly known as Werikhe Kafabusa, is a Ugandan politician who currently serves as State Minister for Trade in the Cabinet of Uganda. He previously served as the State Minister for Housing from June 2006 until May 2011. In the Cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, he was dropped from the cabinet, before returning as State Minister for Industry. He also serves as the elected Member of Parliament representing Bungokho County South, Mbale District, having served continuously in that role since 1996.

Adolf Kasaija Mwesige is a Ugandan lawyer and politician who served as Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs in the Cabinet of Uganda from 6 June 2016 to 8 June 2021. He previously served as Minister of Local Government from 18 February 2009 to 6 June 2016. He has also been the elected Member of Parliament for Bunyangabu County, Kabarole District, since 1996. In July 2017, Bunyangabu County was peeled off Kabarole District to form Bunyangabu District.

Henry Muganwa Kajura, commonly known as Henry Kajura, is a Ugandan administrator and politician. Until 2016 he served as the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Service in the Cabinet of Uganda.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (MTIC) is a cabinet level ministry of the government of Uganda. The mission of the ministry is to "develop and promote a competitive and export-driven private sector through the acceleration of industrial development", with the ultimate objective being the growth of the Ugandan economy. The ministry is headed by Minister Francis Mwebesa, who was appointed by the president.

The Uganda Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA) is the cabinet-level ministry responsible for the promotion of tourism, the preservation and welfare of wildlife, and the preservation, improvement and safekeeping of natural and other national historic sites and monuments.

The Ministry of Works and Transport is a Cabinet level government ministry of Uganda, that is mandated to plan, develop and maintain an economic, efficient and effective transport infrastructure, and transport services by road, rail, water, and air. The ministry is also mandated to manage public works including government structures and promote standards in the construction industry. The ministry is headed by a Cabinet Minister. The current Minister of Works and Transport is Katumba Wamala.

The Ministry of Education and Sports (MES), is a cabinet-level ministry of Uganda. It is mandated "to provide technical support, guide, coordinate, regulate and promote quality education, training and sports to all persons in Uganda for national integration, development and individual advancement", according to the website of the ministry.

Beti Olive Namisango Kamya-Turomwe, also known as Betty Kamya and Beti Kamya, is a businesswoman and politician in Uganda, the third-largest economy in the East African Community. She is the Inspector General of Government in Uganda, since 16 July 2021.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) is a cabinet-level ministry of the government of Uganda. The mandate of the ministry is to "formulate, review and implement national policies, plans, strategies, regulations and standards and enforce laws, regulations and standards along the value chain of crops, livestock and fisheries". The ministry is also responsible for the "enhancement of crop production and productivity, in a sustainable and environmentally safe manner, for improved food and nutrition security, employment, widened export base and improved incomes of the farmers".

Betty Amongi Akena,, but commonly known as Betty Amongi, is a Ugandan politician. She is the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development in the Cabinet of Uganda, as of 9 June 2021. Previously, she served as the Cabinet Minister of Kampala Capital City and before that, from 6 June 2016 until 14 December 2019, she served as the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in Uganda's cabinet. She is also the incumbent member of parliament representing the Oyam South Constituency in the 11th Parliament.

The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance is a cabinet ministry of Uganda. The ministry is headed by Chris Baryomunsi.

The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) is a Cabinet-level government ministry of Uganda. The mandate of the ministry is to empower citizens to maximize their individual and collective potential by developing skills, increasing labour productivity, and cultural enrichment to achieve sustainable and gender-sensitive development. The Ministry of Local Government (MOLG), is a cabinet-level government ministry of Uganda. It is responsible for the "creation, supervision and guidance of sustainable, efficient and effective service delivery in the decentralized system of governance. The ministry is responsible for the harmonization and support of all local government functions, to cause positive socio-economic transformation of Uganda". The ministry is headed by a cabinet minister, currently Tom Butime.

The Uganda Ministry of East African Community Affairs is a cabinet level-ministry headed by Minister Kahinda Otafiire.

The Ministry of Disaster Preparedness and Refugees is a cabinet-level government ministry of Uganda. The ministry is responsible for the coordination of all refugee matters in the country. It is also responsible for national preparedness for disasters, including floods, landslides, earthquakes, droughts, and famine.
