Mio Narita (born 18 December 2006) is a Japanese competitive swimmer. She is the 2022 World Junior champion and 2022 Junior Pan Pacific champion in both the 200-metre individual medley and the 400-metre individual medley. She is a former world junior record holder in the 400-metre individual medley.
On 3 March 2022, at the selection meet for swimmers to represent Japan at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, Narita set a new world junior record in the 400-metre individual medley with a time of 4:36.71, which followed the record of 4:38.53 established in 2019 by Alba Vázquez of Spain, and did not qualify for the senior World Championships. At the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, held at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Honolulu, United States, Narita won the gold medal in the 400-metre individual medley with a Championships record time of 4:36.79, finishing over six seconds ahead of silver medalist Kayla Han of the United States. [3] She also won the gold medal in the 200-metre individual medley, with a time of 2:11.22, and the silver medal in the 200-metre backstroke, with a time of 2:09.67. [4] Based upon point allocations for each placing by athletes in their individual events at the Championships, Narita ranked as the second highest scoring female competitor, behind American Erin Gemmell, and fourth highest scoring overall competitor, behind Erin Gemmell and Australian male swimmers Joshua Staples and Flynn Southam. Starting competition on day one at the 2022 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships, held in Lima, Peru starting three days after the end of the Junior Pan Pacific Championships, Narita ranked first in the preliminaries of the 400-metre individual medley with a 4:45.29 and qualified for the final. [6] She maintained a leading edge of approximately 14 seconds in the final, which corresponded to sixth-place finisher Vivien Jackl of Hungary, achieving a new Championship record time of 4:37.78 and winning the gold medal. [7] [8] [9] [10] Two days later, she ranked second in the preliminaries of the 200-metre backstroke, only behind Dóra Molnár of Hungary, with a time of 2:12.05, and advanced to the final. [11] For her performance in the final, she finished 0.01 seconds behind bronze medalist Laura Bernat of Poland with a 2:11.10 to place fourth. [12]
The next day, Narita ranked first in the preliminaries of the 200-metre individual medley with a 2:14.74, which was 9.00 seconds faster than eighth-rank and last final qualifier Jimena Leguizamón of Colombia. [13] [14] In the final later the same day, she won the gold medal with a time of 2:11.68, finishing 2.06 seconds ahead of bronze medalist Emma Carrasco of Spain. [15] [16] [17] Two days later, she split a 1:11.68 for the breaststroke leg of the 4×100-metre medley relay in the preliminaries, helping qualify the relay to the final ranking second with a time of 4:10.41. [18] On the finals relay, she switched strokes, splitting a 56.17 for the freestyle leg of the relay to help win the gold medal in a time of 4:06.44. [19]
On 22 October, Narita won the gold medal in the 400-metre individual medley at the 2022 Japan Short Course Championships in Tokyo, and conducted in short course metres, with a personal best time of 4:29.70. [1] [20] The next day, she won the silver medal in the 200-metre individual medley with a personal best time of 2:07.25. [21] As of mid-November, her 4:29.70 in the 400-metre individual medley ranked fifth amongst female swimmers globally for the year. [20] Later in the year, in December at the 2022 Japan Open Swimming Championships conducted in long course metres in Tokyo, she won the gold medal in the 400-metre individual medley with a time of 4:37.32. [22] On 3 December, the following day, she won the gold medal in the 200-metre individual medley with a time of 2:12.23. [23]
In January 2023, Narita competed at the 2023 South Australia State Open Championships in Adelaide, Australia, winning the 200-metre backstroke with a 2:13.59 and the 200-metre individual medley with a 2:14.34. [24] The following month, she won the 400-metre individual medley at the 2023 Konami Open in Chiba Prefecture, finishing in a meet record time of 4:37.59. [25] The second of two days, she won the 200-metre individual medley with a personal best and meet record time of 2:11.10. [26] In March, she won the short course 200-metre individual medley final heat open to 15 and 16 year old girls at the 45th Japan Junior Spring Olympic Cup in a meet record time of 2:08.28. [27]
On the first morning of the 2023 Japan Swim in April in Tokyo, Narita qualified for the final of the 200-metre individual medley with a time of 2:13.45 and overall rank of second in the preliminaries. [28] Later in the day, she won the gold medal in the final with a personal best and 2023 World Aquatics Championships and 2022 Asian Games qualifying time of 2:10.91. [29] [30] The sixth and final morning, she ranked first in the preliminaries of the 400-metre individual medley, qualifying for the final with a time of 4:41.28. [31] She won the gold medal in the final by 1.01 seconds with a time of 4:36.89. [32] The following month, she won the bronze medal in the 200-metre individual medley with a time of 2:11.93 at the 2023 Mare Nostrum stop in Canet-en-Roussillon, France, where she was the only female junior swimmer (born 2005 or more recent) to qualify for the a-final. [33] She upped her placing to second in the final of the 400-metre individual medley, winning the silver medal with a 4:42.84. [34] Four days later, she won the gold medal in the 400-metre individual medley at the stop of the Mare Nostrum in Barcelona, Spain, with a time of 4:39.22. [35]

Mireia Belmonte García is a Spanish Olympic, world, and European champion swimmer. She is the world record holder in the short course 200 metre butterfly and 400 metre individual medley. Formerly, she held the world record in the short course 400 metre freestyle, 800 metre freestyle, and 1500 metre freestyle. She was the first Spanish woman to win a gold medal in swimming at an Olympic Games and is widely considered to be the greatest Spanish swimmer of all time.

Anton Mikhailovich Chupkov is a Russian competitive swimmer. He is the European record holder in the long course 200 metre breaststroke and the Russian record holder in the long course 100 metre breaststroke. Kaylee Rochelle McKeown is an Australian swimmer and quadruple Olympic gold medalist. Anastasia "Nastiya" Gorbenko is an Israeli competitive swimmer. She competes in the backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and medley. She has won 8 World and European championships gold medals, competed at 2 Olympic finals, broken most of the Israeli national records for women and mixed relays, and is considered to be Israel's greatest swimmer of all time. In February 2024, Gorbenko won a silver medal at the Doha World Championships in the women's 400 meters individual medley. Gorbenko is representing Israel at the 2024 Summer Olympics in swimming in the 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, 400m individual medley, 4x200m freestyle relay, and mixed 4x100m medley relay on July 28-30 and August 1-3, 2024, in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris.
Alexandra Walsh is an American competitive swimmer. She is known for her versatility in all four strokes that has allowed her to have success in medley events. Growing up, Walsh was a phenom who started setting national age group records at 12 in 2014. She led her high school team to multiple state and national championships. At the 2019 Pan American Games, she won three gold medals.
Summer Ann McIntosh is a Canadian competitive swimmer. She is the 2024 Olympic champion in the 400 metre individual medley, and also holds the world record in that event. She is a four-time World Aquatics champion, two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist, and a two time Olympic medallist. She has a gold medal in the 400m individual medley and a silver medal in the 400m freestyle.
Ellen Walshe is an Irish swimmer. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 100 metre butterfly and the 200 metre individual medley. At the 2021 World Swimming Championships, she won the silver medal in the 400 metre individual medley. She was the first swimmer representing Ireland to win a medal higher than a bronze medal at a World Swimming Championships. Collegiately, she competes for the Tennessee Volunteers.
Pieter Coetze is a South African swimmer. He is the African record holder in the long course and short course 100 metre backstroke and short course 50 metre backstroke. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, he won the gold medal in the 100 metre backstroke, the silver medal in the 50 metre backstroke, and the bronze medal in the 200 metre backstroke. At the 2022 World Junior Championships, he competed in ten events, including winning the gold medal in the 200 metre backstroke, silver medals in the 50 metre backstroke, 100 metre backstroke, and the 4×100 metre medley relay, as well as a bronze medal in the 4×100 metre mixed medley relay.
Matthew Sates is a South African swimmer. He is the African record holder in the short course 200 metre freestyle, 400 metre freestyle, and 200 metre individual medley as well as the South African record holder in the 400 metre individual medley. He is the 2022 World Short Course champion in the 200 metre individual medley and bronze medalist in the 400 metre individual medley. At the 2022 NCAA Division I Championships, he won the NCAA title in the 500 yard freestyle. For the 2021 FINA Swimming World Cup, he was the overall male winner, earning a total of 18 medals, including 13 gold medals.
Aviv Barzelay is an Israeli Olympic swimmer. She represented Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the Women's 200m backstroke event, and came in 15th. At the 2023 European U23 Championships, she won the gold medal in the 200 L backstroke. Barzelay is representing Israel at the 2024 Summer Olympics in swimming in the 200 metre backstroke on July 29, and the 200 metre individual medley on July 31 through August 2, at the Paris La Défense Arena.
Lani Pallister is an Australian competitive swimmer. She is a world record holder in two sports, with a world record in swimming, the short course 4×200-metre freestyle relay, and world records in life saving for the youth age group in the 100-metre rescue medley and 200-metre super lifesaver. She holds the Oceanian, Commonwealth, and Australian records in the short course 1500-metre freestyle and the Australian record in the short course 800-metre freestyle. She is the first female World Short Course champion in the 1500-metre freestyle, winning the inaugural event for women at the 2022 edition. Jimena Leguizamón Leal is a Colombian competitive swimmer. At the 2022 Bolivarian Games, she won gold medals in the 200 metre backstroke and 4×100 metre medley relay and bronze medals in the 200 metre individual medley and 100 metre backstroke. At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, she placed sixteenth in the 200 metre backstroke and became the first female Colombian swimmer to reach the semifinals stage of competition in the event at a FINA World Aquatics Championships. She won the silver medal in the 200 metre backstroke at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games and two gold medals and two silver medals in individual events at the 2022 South American Youth Games.
