Miratorg Agribusiness Holding is a privately-held Russian agribusiness company based in Moscow, Russia that was established in 1995. [2] [3] It is owned by agriculture oligarch Matvey Yozhikov and is one of the largest producers and distributors of meat products in Russia. [4]
The company was founded in 1995 by twin brothers Viktor and Alexander Linnik. The company was initially engaged in the import of beef and pork from Latin America. [5] Miratorg signed an exclusive contract for the supply of products with the Brazilian corporation Sadia in 1999, and signed another with Minerva Foodsrupt, the largest beef producer in South America at that time, a year later. Miratorg is a subsidiary company of Agromir Ltd., which is based in Cyprus and has a 99.9% ownership interest in the company, which as of 2023 is now owned by businessman Matvey Yozhikov. [4] December 1, 2007 Miratorg and Sadia opened a joint venture for the production of semi-finished products at the Concordia plant in Kaliningrad. [7] In June 2009 Miratorg took full control of the enterprise. [6]

The Operation Carne Fraca is an operation started on March 17, 2017, and enforced by the Federal Police of Brazil, that country's federal police force, which investigated some of the country's largest meat processing companies. The name is a pun between the operation's concern with meat and the Bible verse about "weak flesh" – as a result, it is sometimes translated "Operation Weak Flesh".
The meat industry has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Outbreaks of the virus have taken place in factories operated by the meat packing industry and the poultry processing industry. These outbreaks affected dozens of plants, leading to closures of some factories and disruption of others, and posed a significant threat to the meat supply in the United States. By April 27, 2020, there were at least 115 facilities with cases across 23 states, and at least 4,913 workers diagnosed positive with COVID-19, or approximately 3 percent of the workforce, with 20 deaths reported.
