Miren Amuriza Plaza (born March 1, 1990) [1] is a Spanish bertsolari and Biscayan writer. She has collaborated with some music groups, singing and writing lyrics. In 2017, she was the recipient of the Premio Igartza.
Miren Amuriza has lived in the world of Bertsolaritza since she was young. She accompanied her bertsolari parents from town to town, watching them sing. However, her parents never encouraged Miren to follow the same passion. She herself decided to follow in the footsteps of her father, Xabier Amuriza , who has always been the main point of reference for her in this profession.
Amuriza has a degree in Basque language Philology from the University of the Basque Country and has a master's degree in Teaching Qualification in Compulsory Secondary Education.
In 2002, she sang for the first time in public when she participated in the Vizcaya school championship, in the El Carmen hall in Bilbao, and in 2003, she won the youngest category of this championship. That same year was the first time that she shared the stage together with her father, singing in the bertso-afari de Andikoa. In 2006, she participated in the Vizcaya school championship where she was proclaimed champion in the senior category and was also part of the Basque school championship where she would be a finalist. Two years later, she won the championship, and she also made her debut in the Vizcaya bertsos championship in which she participated three times, obtaining her best result in 2010, placing third. When she came of age, she appeared on television on the ETB 1 channel together with other bertsolaris such as her father, as well as Jexux Arzallus, Amets Arzallus, and Maddalen Arzallus , participating in the Euskal Kantuen Gaua program singing the popular song Gure Aitak amari. In 2009, she began her participation in the national championship of Bertsolaritza reaching the second phase. In 2010, on the occasion of the bertso eguna, together with her friend and fellow bertsolari, Maddalen Arzallus, they paid a resounding tribute to their mothers. [2]
In the 2016 Vizcaya championship, Amuriza created a new rhythm for the verses, covering a song by Chavela Vargas. [3]
Amuriza works as a teacher at the Mondragon University. She also likes to write. She collaborates with the Bertsolaritza association working as a teacher at the Bertsolaritza school giving classes to children.
She has collaborated with the magazine Anboto [4] and the magazine Argia [5] writing opinion articles. Her work has also been published in the newspaper Berria . [6] As for literature, in 2017, she won the Igartza Award for the Paperezko txoriak project. [7] In 2018, she obtained, together with Askoa Etxebarrieta, the lanku grant to develop the Tan takatan project, a project that tries to combine copla and flamenco. [8]

Bertsolaritza[berˈts̺olaɾits̻a] or bertsolarism is the art of singing extemporaneously composed songs in Basque according to various melodies and rhyming patterns. Bertsos can be composed at a variety of occasions but are performed generally by one or various bertsolaris onstage in an event arranged for the purpose or as a sideshow, in homage ceremonies, in benefit lunches and suppers, with friends or at a competition. Such a sung piece of composition is called a bertso, the person who sings it is called a bertsolari and the art of composing bertsos is called bertsolaritza in Basque. Traditionally these were sung by men but there is an increasing number of young female bertsolaris today.

Maialen Lujanbio is a Basque poet and bertsolari winner. She composes her oral poetry in the Basque language and she is the only woman to ever reach her level.
Women in the Basque Nationalist Party in Francoist Spain were involved in leadership positions from an early period. The Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) was founded prior to the Second Spanish Republic in Bilbao, as a conservative Roman Catholic organization. They initially tried to be neutral during the Civil War, but later more openly opposed Nationalist forces. This led to repression and investigation after the war of women PNV members, and wives and daughters of male PNV members. Emakume Abertzale Batza, PNV's women political section, was operated in exile in this early period.

Aizpea Goenaga Mendiola is a Basque actress and film director. She was the director of Etxepare Basque Institute, the institute of the Basque language and culture between 2009 and 2016. She belongs to a well-known dynasty of Basque actors, Aizpea is the aunt of Bárbara Goenaga, an actress herself, the daughter of the actress Juani Mendiola Barkaiztegi and the sister of the artist Juan Luis Goenaga.
Gotzone Sagardui is a Spanish politician affiliated with the Basque National Party. As of 8 September 2020, she serves as Minister of Health in the Third Urkullu Government led by Iñigo Urkullu. She previously served as city councillor in Bilbao from 2017 to 2020, also serving as deputy mayor from 2019. She was a Member of the Basque Parliament from 2016 to 2017. She holds a degree in Medicine from the University of the Basque Country.
Marijane Minaberri or Marie-Jeanne Minaberry was a Basque author and radio broadcaster. She began writing articles for herself at the age of 20 and then worked as Banca's town hall municipal secretary for a decade. Minaberri then taught 10 and 11-year-old students at Bayonne's Saint Louis de Gonzague church before beginning a broadcasting career on Radio Côte Basque, Gure Irratia and Lapurdi Irratia. She wrote a series of poems and children's stories in both Basque in French and was a member of the Euskaltzaindia. Minaberri is considered a pioneer in Basque radio broadcasting and researchers consider two of her works the beginning of learning of Basque children's literature.

Gurutzi Arregi Azpeitia was a Spanish ethnographer. She was the director of the Ethnographic Research Group Etniker-Bizkaia, which systematically collects ethnographic materials of the Basque Country. She was a co-founder and also worked in the Labayru Fundazioa. Arregi coordinated the Ethnographic Atlas of the Basque Country.
Miren Agur Meabe Plaza is a Basque poet, prose writer, author of books for children and young adults and a translator. In 2021, she was the first author to win the Spanish Ministry of Culture's National Poetry Award for a work in Basque.
