Miss Teen Intercontinental is an international beauty pageant which began in 1973. [1] [2]
The current Miss Teen Intercontinental is Veronique Van der Merwe of South Africa who was crowned on November 14, 2023, in Guayaquil, Ecuador. [3] [4]
The first Miss Teen Intercontinental was held already back in 1973, when it was called Miss Teenage Peace International. Barbara Jean Sergi from the United States was crowned at the end of the event held at the Aruba Sheraton Hotel on September 8, 1973. [1] [5]
In 1974 the pageant changed its name to Miss Teenage Intercontinental. And in 1979 the named officially changed into Miss Teen Intercontinental. [6] In 1982 its name was changed to "Miss Intercontinental". In 1984 the competition was discontinued. [7]
In 2005, Ecuadorian producer César Montecé relaunched and organized the contest at the Oro Verde hotel in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It was held for five consecutive years under the direction of the Queen of Ecuador company represented by Montecé. [1] [8] [9]
In 2012, the international pageant was held at the Edmundo Valdez Coliseum in the city of Milagro, after one year of absence. [10]
Since then, the organization has been headed by its President Rodrigo Moreira, who is the owner of the trademark rights. [1] [11]
The competition consists of interview, introduction round, national costume, swimsuit, evening gown and question answer round. [2]

Jennifer Stephanie Pazmiño Saldaña is an Ecuadorian-American TV host, radio host, model and beauty pageant titleholder who placed as the second runner-up at Miss Ecuador 2008, representing Guayaquil. As the second runner-up Pazmiño was crowned Miss Ecuador International 2008. She represented Ecuador at Miss International 2008, where she placed Top 12. Two years later Pazmiño was appointed and crowned as Miss Earth Ecuador 2010 by Jose Hidalgo her National Director. Pazmiño represented Ecuador at Miss Earth 2010 she became the first delegate from Ecuador to win the title Miss Earth-Air elemental crown.
Miss Earth Ecuador is one of the official preliminaries to the international Miss Earth beauty pageant, which was established in the Philippines in 2001. The pageant focuses mainly on promoting environmental causes and winners are chosen equally on their physical attributes as well as their understanding and knowledge of the issues affecting the Earth.
The first beauty queen in Ecuador was Sara Chacón Zúñiga from Guayaquil, Guayas province in 1930. She wore the sash and the crown of Miss Ecuador for the very first time.
