Missenyi District is one of the eight districts of the Kagera Region of Tanzania. The district was created in 2007 out of Bukoba District. It is bordered to the north by Uganda, to the east by Bukoba Rural District, to the south by Karagwe District and to the west by Kyerwa District. [1] [2]

According to the 2012 Tanzania National Census, the population of Missenyi District was 202,632, with a population density of 72 inhabitants per square kilometre (190/sq mi). [3] [2] By 2022, the population had grown to 245,394. [4]

Transport

Paved trunk road T4 from Mwanza to the Ugandan border passes through Missenyi District. Unpaved trunk road T38 to Ngara District, through Karagwe District, branches off from T4 in the village of Kyaka. [6]

Ugandan Invasion

In October 1978 Uganda invaded the Kagera Salient in northern Tanzania, initiating the Uganda–Tanzania War. By early January of 1979, all Ugandan troops had been ejected from Kagera.

Kyaka is a town in Tanzania. It is an urban centre in Missenyi District, Kagera Region. The population of Kyaka was estimated at 6,000 people in 2015.

Muleba is one of the six districts of the Kagera Region of Tanzania. It is bordered to the north by Bukoba Urban and Bukoba Rural districts, to the south by Biharamulo District, to the east by Lake Victoria and to the west by Ngara and Karagwe districts. Mutukula, sometimes spelled as Mtukula, is a small town in Missenyi District, Kagera Region, in northwestern Tanzania, at the border with Uganda. Formerly, the settlement on the border was known as Kyebisagazi, and Mutukula was a kilometre to the south on the east side of the Masaka-Bukoba Road (B8).

Kirushya is one of 17 wards/divisions of Ngara District, in the Kagera Region of Tanzania. It is located near Burundi and Rwanda. The name itself comes from a word for "tedious"; the area is largely a dry hill, and the scarcity of water forced residents to travel long distances for resupply. Such a journey is tedious, hence the name. In the 2017 government plans, 41% of Kirushya's population had clean water.
