Model Rail [1] is a British railway magazine focusing on rail transport modelling. It was first published in 1997, after running as a supplement to Rail .

Contents

Model Rail is published 13 times a year. It contains articles about railways in Britain, layouts, weathering, building kits, kitbashing, scratch building, and other model-making techniques.

History

The original Model Rail ran as a supplement to Rail magazine. It became an individual magazine in Autumn 1997. [2] The original Editor was Dave Lowery (who is now the Model Consultant).Originally published termly, it became bi-monthly, and then monthly. In March 2007, Model Rail began publishing 13 issues per year, including Spring and Christmas editions. Recently, editor Chris Leigh has stepped down, and Ben Jones took the role with Leigh becoming Consultant Editor.

Layout of magazine

The 'Masterclass' for the first magazine was the Class 31, and which showed readers how to detail their Lima model. From magazine No. 114, MR had a new look, with more articles, "Show and Tell", and a gallery. The order of the regular features changed, with "Window Shopping" moving to the back, and Reviews moving to the front, next to "The Big Picture".

Model Railroader (MR) is an American magazine about the hobby of model railroading. Founded in 1934 by Al C. Kalmbach, it is published monthly by Kalmbach Media of Waukesha, Wisconsin. Commonly found on newsstands and in libraries, it promotes itself as the oldest magazine of its type in the United States, although it is the long-standing competitor to Railroad Model Craftsman, which - originally named The Model Craftsman - predates MR by one year.

<i>Railroad Model Craftsman</i>

Railroad Model Craftsman is an American magazine specializing in the hobby of model railroading. The magazine is published monthly by White River Productions, which acquired the title from Carstens Publications in 2014. Its first issue in March 1933 was called The Model Craftsman because it covered other areas of scale modeling as well. Founded by Emanuele Stieri, it was second editor Charles A. Penn who helped grow the company and lead the publication towards the hobby of scale models. In April 1949 it changed its focus to model trains and changed its name to Railroad Model Craftsman to reflect this change in editorial content. While it can claim to be the oldest model railroading magazine in continuous publication in the United States, rival Model Railroader counters with the tagline "Model railroading exclusively since 1934." Over the years, several other titles have been folded into the publication, including Toy Trains, Electric Trains and Hobby Railroading, Miniature Rail Roading, Model & Railway News, and The O Gager.

Railway Modeller is a monthly British magazine about Model Railways now published by Peco Publications in Beer, Devon. It has been in publication since 1949 with Vol. 1 No. 1 published as The Railway Modeller, being An Ian Allan Production for October-November, 1949. It is still Britain's most popular model railway title. Its first editor was G. H. Lake, the current editor is Steve Flint.

Nicholas Hugh "Nick" Pigott was the editor of The Railway Magazine, Britain's best-selling rail title between 1994 and 2015. After stepping down, he took on the position as the magazine's Consultant Editor. He previously worked in Fleet Street as a journalist for the Daily Express.

BackTrack is a monthly magazine, published by Pendragon Publishing, concentrating on researched articles and photographic features about British and Irish railway history. It is available through newsagents in the UK and by subscription from the publisher, but does not rely on advertising income and therefore does not publish an ABC circulation figure.

Pacific RailNews(PRN), originally named Pacific News and later RailNews, was an American monthly magazine about railroads and rail transit, oriented for railfans. Mac Sebree American editor

George McClelland Sebree III, better known as Mac Sebree, was an American journalist, writer and publisher whose area of expertise was urban mass transit, particularly urban rail transit. He was also a businessman, being owner and president of the publishing company, Interurban Press, from 1975 until 1993. <i>The New Electric Railway Journal</i>

The New Electric Railway Journal was a quarterly American magazine primarily about electric urban rail transit in North America, published from 1988 to 1998, with an international circulation. Its name was a tribute to a much earlier magazine with similar coverage, the Electric Railway Journal, established in 1884 and published until 1931.

Model Railway Constructor was a monthly British magazine about model railways. The magazine was first published on 15 March 1934. The founder was Ernest F Carter. It came into the Ian Allan Publishing fold with the take-over of Railway World Publications around 1960. John Christie, a regular contributor in the 1970s, wrote a very informative series of articles on 'The Continental Scene' many of them about German railways. <i>British Railway Modelling</i> hobby magazine (model railways)

British Railway Modelling (BRM) is a monthly British magazine about Model Railways published by Warners Group Publications plc. It has been in publication since 1993, originally under the tagline "A Colourful New Look at Hobby". The magazine has been based in Bourne, Lincolnshire, since its inception.
