Qatar competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, which was held from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The country's participation at London marked its eighth appearance in the Summer Olympics since its début at the 1984 Summer Olympics. The delegation sent by the Qatar Olympic Committee consisted of twelve athletes in athletics, shooting, swimming and table tennis. The 2012 Games marked the first time Qatar sent female athletes to the Olympic Games; following the 2008 Summer Olympics, it had been one of only three countries, along with Saudi Arabia and Brunei, to never have done so.

Bahiya Mansour Al-Hamad is a rifle shooter from Qatar. She was named the Best Female Athlete of the Year 2011-2012 by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC). She qualified for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, where she served as the flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony.
Rashid Salih Hamad Al-Athba is a Qatari sport shooter. Hamad represented Qatar at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed in the men's skeet shooting, along with four-time Olympian Nasser Al-Attiyah. He finished only in thirty-seventh place for the two-day qualifying rounds, with a total score of 106 points. Hamad clinched a silver and a bronze in the skeet event at the 2022 Asian Games.
The 2016 AFC U-23 Championship was the second edition of the AFC U-23 Championship, the biennial international age-restricted football championship organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's under-23 national teams of Asia. The tournament was held in Qatar between 12–30 January 2016. A total of 16 teams compete in the tournament. The tournament was also renamed from the "AFC U-22 Championship" to the "AFC U-23 Championship".
