Mohammad Musa is a two star military admiral of Bangladesh Navy and the incumbent Assistant Chief Of Naval Staff (Personnel). He is the former Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University. Prior to that, he served as the Chairman of Mongla Port Authority. [1] Previously, he was Commander of Khulna Naval Area. [2]
Musa joined Bangladesh Naval Academy on 27 January 1985 with 15th BMA Long Course. After one year of training in Bangladesh Military and Naval Academy, he is the first officer who has undergone Officer's Basic Training at Royal Malaysian Navy. On 1 July 1987, he was commissioned in the Executive branch. [3] In his Academic Credential, he has four master's degrees in War Studies, English Literature, International Security & Strategic Studies and Business Administration respectively. He completed MA in "International Security and Strategy" from King's College London. He has completed his M Phil from Bangladesh University of Professionals in 2015. In early 2021, the admiral has completed PhD in "Maritime Awareness: Bangladesh Perspective" from Jahangirnagar University. [4] Musa is an alumnus of Sylhet Cadet College.
Musa represented Bangladesh in the State Party meeting in the United Nations in 2013. He attended Senior Executive Decision-Making Programme at Institute for Security Governance in California in 2019. Recently, he attended 12th Regional Sea Power Symposium in Italy and delivered lecture on 'Shaping of Navies in the Blue century. His interviews were published in six international defence & security journals. Many of his numerous articles were published in various defence and security journals at home and abroad. [5]
Musa is married to Nishat Rahman and is father of two sons. [6] His elder brother Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Muhammad Mafidur Rahman was the Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh.
Musa is a Naval Gunnery Specialist Officer and served as instructor in Bangladesh Naval Academy, Chief Instructor of Naval Gunnery and Seamanship School. He has commanded six warships including Patrol Craft, Offshore patrol vessel, Frigates and lastly the flagship, BNS Bangabandhu. His staff appointments range from Staff Officer Plans and Appointment to Naval Secretary. Musa has served as the Director of four Directorates namely Directorate of Plans, Submarine, Naval Aviation and Signals. He also served as Naval Secretary. He has commanded the biggest naval establishment of Bangladesh Navy, BNS Issa Khan in Chattogram. As Area Commander, he performed the duties of Naval Administrative Authority Dhaka and Commander Khulna Naval Area. On his tenure as Commander Khulna Naval Area, Musa was reported to have rendered humanitarian assistance and support to local administration during COVID-19 pandemic. Musa executed and conducted relief operations during floods and cyclones as well as supporting aid and assistance to local governments as part of Bangladesh Navy's campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic. Outside Navy, Musa has served as Director at Blue Economy Cell of Energy and Mineral Resources Division. He also served as Directing Staff (Navy) Armed Forces War Course at National Defence College. [6] He is also an alumnus of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur, French Inter Forces War College, Armed Forces War Course, National Defence College, Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS), UK and King's College London. He was appointed as vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University by Government of Bangladesh in January 2023. [7]
Musa served as Chairman of Mongla Port Authority from January 26, 2021, to January January 25, 2023. During his tenure, the Mongla Port Authority achieved a significant milestone in terms of foreign ship anchoring. In a single fiscal year, the port recorded the highest-ever number of foreign ships anchored, reaching a total of 970.
Musa implemented medical facilities for port employees and actively collaborated with local governments and civil administration in Mongla Port. He distributed goods to port laborers and engaged in talks with worker unions and trade associations. Under his leadership, the Mongla Port remained operational without interruption throughout his two-year tenure, demonstrating his commitment to seamless port activities and trade operations.
Rear Admiral Musa's leadership and management were widely recognized during this period. He was regarded as one of the notable chairpersons of the Mongla Port Authority and gained national attention for his efforts in revitalizing a port that was previously considered inactive. Under his guidance, the port experienced a remarkable transformation, breaking records even during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.
On February 15, 2022, Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa featured as the cover focus of the magazine ICE Business Times. The cover story titled "Untapping Mongla's Full Potential" highlighted his contributions and discussed the regional connectivity aspects of the port.
Additionally on June 3, 2023, Musa was featured in The Prestige Magazine in an exclusive article titled "Navigating Success, Accelerating Progress." In this feature, he provided insights into his background and leadership style.

Bangladesh Navy is a front line disaster management force in Bangladesh. The navy takes part in United Nations peacekeeping.
Mosharraf Hossain Khan was a Bangladesh Navy admiral who served as the chief of the Bangladesh Navy from 7 November 1973 to 3 November 1979. After the Bangladesh war of Independence, Admiral Khan was appointed as the 1st chief of the naval staff of the Bangladesh Navy in November 1973 by the Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. During his tenure, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 10 December 1974 commissioned Bangladesh Navy's largest naval base BNS Issa Khan and also handed over "naval ensign" to Bangladesh Navy on the same day.
Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam is the first ever Vice-Admiral and Former Chief of Naval Staff for the Bangladesh Navy. He is preceded by Rear Admiral M. Hasan Ali Khan ndc, psc, BN and succeeded by Vice Admiral Zahir Uddin Ahmed (ND) ndc, psc, BN.
Mahbub Ali Khan was a Bangladesh Navy rear admiral and the chief of naval staff from 1979 until his death in 1984. He is known for his heroic actions for his country. Under him, the South Talpatti sandbar and other emerging islands in the Bay of Bengal, over which both India and Bangladesh claimed sovereignty, remained under the authority of Bangladesh. He is also known for reducing piracy in the Bay of Bengal and was responsible for maintaining the security of the Bay and the Sundarbans.
Admiral M. Farid Habib, was the 13th Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Navy. He is the first ever four-star Admiral in the history of Bangladesh Navy. Now He serves as a Chairman of Trustee Board of University of Scholars.
Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU) (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ মেরিটাইম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) was established in 2013, the 37th public university of the country. It is the first maritime university in Bangladesh, the 3rd maritime university in South Asia and the 12th maritime university in the world. It has issued its first calls for admission in December, 2016. The BSc in Oceanography program was started on 3 January 2017 at the university's temporary campus in Mirpur, as part of the first-ever launch of the Bachelor class in the university. Then in 2018, the first batch of BSc in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering classes started. Two more program classes started in 2019. LLB in Maritime Law and BBA in Port Management and Logistics. 2020 BSc in Maritime Fisheries first batch admission and classes start.
Sheikh Muhammad Abul Kalam Azad is a two star admiral of Bangladesh and former high commissioner of Bangladesh to Maldives. He is former Commander of Bangladesh Navy Fleet. Earlier he held a range of salient appointments, namely Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority, Chairman of Mongla port Authority, Director of Naval Intelligence & Naval Administrative Authority Dhaka.
Rear Admiral Mohammad Lokmanur Rahman, NBP, NGP, ndu, psc is a retired two-star admiral in Bangladesh Navy who served as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Logistics). He also served as the Administrative Authority Dhaka and as the Director Purchase (Navy) at DGDP.
Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal is a retired four star Admiral of the Bangladesh Navy who served as Chief of the Naval Staff till 24 July 2023. Previously he held the posts of Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Operations & Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Personnel in Naval Headquarters.
Ashraful Hoq Chowdhury ndu, afwc, psc, BCGM, BN is a rear admiral of the Bangladesh Navy and incumbent vice chancellor Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University. He was the former director general of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Prior to this appointment, he was the Commander of the Khulna Naval Area.

Prior to join here, he was Commander of Chattogram Naval Area (COMCHIT). Prior to assumption of the Commander Chattogram Naval Area on 4 February 2020, he served as Chairman of Mongla Port Authority.

Prior to join here he was Chairman of Payra Port Authority. Before that, he was serving as the Director of Submarine at the Navy Headquarters.
Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali, OSP, NPP, ndc, psc, BN is a two-star admiral in Bangladesh Navy. He served as 15th director general of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Prior to this appointment, he served as chairman of Mongla Port Authority and before that commander of Bangladesh Navy Fleet. He also served as director of naval intelligence (DNI) at Naval Headquarters. He elevated to the rear admiral rank from commodore on 25 January 2022.

Additionally, he briefly served as the assistant chief of naval staff (personnel).
