It was called following the death of incumbent,Lee Kee Hiong on 21 March 2024 of cancer. Lee has served as Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly for Kuala Kubu Baharu,serving since 2013 for three terms. It is the first Selangor state by-election since the 2023 Selangor state election.
