Mona Christine Holm, married Solberg (born 5 August 1983) is a Norwegian hammer thrower.
She grew up in Kolvereid. As a young girl she tried football, handball, badminton, cross-country skiing, cross-country running and the discus throw. She was discovered during a discus meetup in Oslo and advised to try the hammer throw. Lacking a training field, she used to stand on a remote road and throw the hammer into the adjacent woodlands. She attended upper secondary school in Namsos, but still without a group of throwers to train with, so she continued playing handball throughout her teenages. She later took higher education as a physiotherapist. [1] [2]
In the international age-specific competitions, she competed at the 2001 European Junior Championships, the 2002 World Junior Championships, the 2003 European U23 Championships and the 2005 European U23 Championships without reaching the final. [3]
Her stint in senior international competitions started at the 2006 European Championships, continuing with the 2007 World Championships, the 2010 European Championships, the 2011 World Championships and the 2012 European Championships. She reached the final on neither occasion. [3] She tried qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games, but was not given the green light by the Norwegian Athletics Association. [4] She announced that this was the probable end of her elite career. [5]
Mona Holm won her first national medal in the hammer throw in 2002, when she took the silver. She proceeded to become Norwegian champion 9 times, every year in a row from 2004 throughout 2012. [3] She won the King's Cup, the award for the best female result at the national championships, in 2007 and 2011. [6] During her heyday, she represented the clubs IL Norna-Salhus and IK Tjalve. [7] As the undisputed best hammer thrower for a decade, she represented Norway in several European Cups and European Team Championships, as well as European Winter Throwing Cups. [3]
Her main coach was Einar Brynemo. [5] During her career, she also managed to win the bronze medal in discus throw at two Norwegian championships; in 2004 and 2010. [8] After sitting out the 2013 Norwegian championships due to childbirth, Mona Holm Solberg tried to win her tenth hammer title in 2014, but succumbed to Trude Raad. Holm Solberg took her last hammer medal at the nationals, another silver medal to bring her silver count to four, in 2016. [9] [10]
Holm broke the Norwegian record in the hammer throw a total of ten times. The record stood at a modest 60.56 metres when Holm threw 60.84 in May 2004 in Szombathely. Three weeks later, she improved to 60.92 metres at the 2004 European Cup Second League Group A meet in Reykjavík. In 2005, the record took a leap to 62.19 metres in Gävle, at the 2005 European Cup First League Group A competition, before Holm reached 62.82 metres at the Norwegian championships at Fana stadion. Another improvement to 64.20 metres, set in April 2006 while conducting pre-season training in Poros, was not acknowledged as the stadium was "not certified". Instead, she went via 63.39 metres at another European Cup meet—the 2006 European Cup Second League Group A in Banská Bystrica—before even surpassing her unofficial record with back-to-back throws of 64.50 metres at the Öresundsspelen in Helsingborg and 64.89 at the Bottnaryd Throwing Meeting in Bottnaryd, both in Sweden. She also came close at the national championships at Bislett stadion, where she threw 64.68 metres. [7]
2007 would see her largest record improvement so far. At the Hallescher Werfertage in May 2007 she broke the record twice, first with 66.66 metres (as an ancilliary record) and finally with 67.80 metres. This would stand for three years, until an elite meeting in Tønsberg in June 2010, when she surpassed it with 67.96 metres. This too would stand for some time, until August 2011 when Holm reached her final best throw of 70.43 at the Norwegian championships in Byrkjelo. [7] This was also the Nordic record at the time. [11] Her Norwegian record stood until 2019 when overtaken by Beatrice Nedberge Llano. [7]
She married Paul Solberg, a former javelin thrower and now coach, in Prestebakke in April 2012. [12] The couple settled in his hometown Halden. She later moved to Fredrikstad and worked at the sport school Wang Ung. [13]
Andreas Thorkildsen is a retired Norwegian track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. He was the Olympic Champion in 2004 and 2008, European Champion in 2006 and 2010, and World Champion in 2009. He is the first male javelin thrower in history to simultaneously be European, World and Olympic Champion. He was also a three-time silver medalist at the World Championships, placing second in 2005, 2007 and 2011. His personal best of 91.59 m, set in 2006, is the Norwegian record.
Yipsi Moreno González is a Cuban hammer thrower. She is a triple world champion and Olympic gold medalist, a former world junior record holder and current area record holder.
Kamila Skolimowska was a Polish hammer thrower. She is best known for her gold medal in the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics, which made her the youngest Olympic hammer champion, as well as for her two medals from the European Championships. Her personal best throw, and former Polish record, was 76.83 metres, achieved in May 2007 in Doha. She died on 18 February 2009 in Vila Real de Santo António, Portugal at the Polish national team training camp.
Nina Solheim is a Norwegian taekwondo practitioner. She won a silver medal in the women's heavyweight (+67 kg) division at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, beaten by Mexican María del Rosario Espinoza in the final. She also qualified and competed in the women's middleweight (67 kg) division at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She lost in the quarterfinals against Luo Wei of China after injuring her knee.
Rosa Andreína Rodríguez Pargas is a Venezuelan hammer thrower. She is the Venezuelan record holder for the event with her personal best of 72.83 metres, set in May 2012, which she improved to 73.64 in 2013. Rodríguez represented Venezuela at the World Championships in Athletics in 2007, 2009, 2013 and 2015.
Ivar Ramstad was a Norwegian discus thrower.
Larisa Korotkevich is a retired female discus thrower from Russia. Her personal best throw is 71.30 m, achieved on 29 May 1992 in Sochi. This mark ranks her 16th on the all-time discus rankings and, as of 2014, no woman has surpassed that mark since it was set.
Dani Stevens is a retired Australian discus thrower who in 2009 became the youngest ever female world champion in the event. She is the current national and Oceanian record holder.
Anil Kumar is a well renowned Indian male discus thrower with his personal best throw of 64.37 metres attained in July, 2004 in Szombathely, Hungary. He received Arjuna Award in 2004 for his performances at Asia level. He is also bestowed with the Bhim Award by State Government of Haryana. He led the Indian athletics contingent for Asian Athletics Grand Prix Series held at Colombo, Bangkok and Manila in June 2003.
Anita Włodarczyk is a Polish hammer thrower. She is the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic champion, and the first woman in history to throw the hammer over 80 m; she currently holds the women's world record of 82.98 m. She is considered the greatest women's hammer thrower of all time.
Karen Fladset is a Norwegian former team handball player and coach. She played for the club IL Vestar and the Norway women's national handball team. With Vestar she became Norwegian Champion both as player and coach, and she was top scorer in the Norwegian league for four seasons. After her playing career she was head coach for the national team for two years, and later coach for various clubs. She was a Norway champion in discus throw three times.
Sandra Perković Elkasević is a Croatian discus thrower. She is a two-time Olympic and world champion and a record seven-time European champion which no other female athlete achieved. She is also a seven-time Diamond League winner, prevailing in 46 circuit's meetings.

The 2010 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 20 and 21 March 2010 at the Stade Fernand Fournier in Arles, France. It was the tenth edition of the athletics competition for throwing events and it was organised by the European Athletics Association and the Fédération française d'athlétisme.

The 2013 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 16 and 17 March at the Pista de Atletismo Universitat Jaume I and Complejo Deportivo Gaetà Huguet in Castellón, Spain. It was the thirteenth edition of the athletics competition in throwing events and was jointly organised by the European Athletic Association and the Real Federación Española de Atletismo. The competition featured men's and women's contests in shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and hammer throw. In addition to the senior competitions, there were also under-23 events for younger athletes. A total of 249 athletes from 38 nations entered the competition. It was the second time that Spain hosted the event, following on from the 2009 edition held in Tenerife.
The 2007 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 17 and 18 March at Avangard Stadium in Yalta, Ukraine. It was the seventh edition of the athletics competition for throwing events organised by the European Athletics Association. A total of 203 athletes from 26 countries entered the competition – a new high for the event.
Jade Louise Lally is a British track and field athlete. She won a bronze medal for England in the women's discus at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and represented Great Britain at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Her personal best is 65.10m set at the New South Wales Open Championships (AUS) on 27th February 2016.

Trude Raad is a deaf Norwegian track and field athlete. She generally competes in the discus throw and hammer throw events at the International competitions. Trude has represented Norway at the Deaflympics in 2009, 2013 and 2017 and has won 4 gold medals in her Deaflympic career. She was also a champion in the women's hammer throw event at the Deaflympics on 3 consecutive occasions. She broke her own deaf world record in the women's hammer throw at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics with a distance of 66.35m, the previous best was 65.03m
