Basel, also known as Basle, is a city in northwestern Switzerland on the river Rhine. Basel is Switzerland's third-most-populous city, with 177,595 inhabitants within the city municipality limits. The official language of Basel is Swiss Standard German and the main spoken language is the local Basel German dialect.
Geneva is the second-most populous city in Switzerland and the most populous of the French-speaking Romandy. Bern-Mittelland District in the Canton of Bern was created on 1 January 2010. It is part of the Bern-Mittelland administrative region, and is the only district in the region. It contains 74 municipalities with an area of 946.30 km2 (365.37 sq mi) and a population of 418,191.
