Moose Blood are an English emo band based in Canterbury, Kent. They formed in 2012 and were previously signed to Hopeless Records.

Contents

The band released three albums from 2012 to 2018. Moose Blood went on a six-year hiatus before returning in 2024 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut.

History

Moose Blood formed in August 2012 and published a self-released demo, Bukowski Demo (Summer '12), in the same month. The group's line-up consisted of Eddy Brewerton on vocals and guitar, Mark E. Osbourne on guitar, Kyle Todd on bass and Glenn Harvey on drums. [2] On 11 February 2013, an EP, Moving Home , was released through Fist in the Air. [3] "Boston" and "Orlando" were released together as a single through Venn Records [4] on 26 April. [5] The band released a split EP with Departures through No Sleep on 12 November. [6] On 16 April 2014, it was announced that the band had signed to No Sleep and would release their debut album later in the year. [7] In May, the band supported I Am the Avalanche on their tour of the UK. [8] Their debut album I'll Keep You in Mind, From Time to Time charted at number 45 on the US Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. [9] They played on the 2015 Warped Tour.

Moose Blood announced in January 2016 that they would be touring the UK throughout April 2016, supported by The Winter Passing and Greywind. [10] The tour - which would include headline shows at venues such as the O2 Academy Islington in London, and Joiners in Southampton - ended up selling out before it had begun. [11] Moose Blood announced, via their Facebook and Twitter accounts, on 13 April that they had signed to Hopeless Records for their second album. [12] On 17 April that the first single titled "Honey" was played on the Radio 1 Rock Show as the Rockest Record. Eddy also announced that the new album would be released on 5 August and would be titled Blush. [13]

In March 2017, Moose Blood announced the departure of drummer Glenn Harvey in the wake of sexual harassment allegations. [14] Harvey was alleged to have sent an unsolicited image to a woman during 2015. In addition, frontman Eddy Brewerton was also accused of stealing nude photographs from a woman's phone and sharing them with the band, which he denied. [15]

In March 2018, the anti-sexual assault non-profit organisation Girls Against ended its partnership with England's Truck Festival over their refusal to remove Moose Blood from their lineup over the sexual misconduct allegations. [16]

In April 2018, Movements dropped off a tour supporting Moose Blood over the band's sexual misconduct allegations. [17] On 24 September 2018, Moose Blood was announced as support for Good Charlotte's headline tour across Europe and the UK, but Good Charlotte removed them hours later after fan backlash over Moose Blood's sexual misconduct allegations. [18] Following their removal from the Good Charlotte tour, Moose Blood announced a hiatus, citing that "it has been a traumatic past year." [19] [20]

On 3 May 2021, Mark Osborne and Lee Munday announced a new band Hurtless that also features Brian MacDonald from PVRIS. Lee's Instagram post included the caption "Moving on...", hinting at a full break up for Moose Blood. [21] The next month, Hurtless released their debut single "Slower". [22]

On 15 January 2024, Moose Blood announced a one-off show to commemorate the 10th anniversary of I'll Keep You in Mind, From Time to Time, set to take place on 8 June 2024 at Camden Underworld in London. [23] Tickets were released on 19 January 2024 and, after selling out within seconds, a second show was announced set to take place on 7 June 2024. This too sold out.

Reception

Moose Blood has been described as emo, [4] pop punk [24] and emo pop. [25] Alex DiVincenzo described their 2013 EP Moving Home as "like a combination of Brand New's Deja Entendu , The Get Up Kids' Something to Write Home About and American Football's self-titled." [26]

Their debut EP Tales Told by Dead Friends, was released in 2006, and sold over 50,000 copies without any label support. In July 2007, Mayday Parade released their debut album A Lesson in Romantics. Having been signed to Fearless Records since 2006, the band also signed onto a major label with Atlantic Records in 2009. Their second studio album, Anywhere but Here was released in October 2009 and their third album, entitled Mayday Parade, was released in October 2011. Mayday Parade's fourth album, titled Monsters in the Closet, was released in October 2013. Their fifth album, titled Black Lines, was released October 2015. Emo pop is a fusion genre combining emo with pop-punk, pop music, or both. Emo pop features a musical style with more concise composition and hook-filled choruses. Emo pop has its origins in the 1990s with bands like Jimmy Eat World, the Get Up Kids, Weezer and the Promise Ring. The genre entered the mainstream in the early 2000s with Jimmy Eat World's breakthrough album Bleed American, which included its song "The Middle". Other emo pop bands that achieved mainstream success throughout the decade included Fall Out Boy, the All-American Rejects, My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco and Paramore. The popularity of emo pop declined in the 2010s, with some prominent artists in the genre either disbanding or abandoning the emo pop style.

Man Overboard is an American pop punk band from Mt. Laurel and Williamstown, New Jersey that began in 2008. Since then, they had released two EPs, an acoustic EP, a split with Boston pop punk band Transit, a compilation and four full-length albums. Taking influence from such pop punk acts as Blink-182, Saves the Day, and Taking Back Sunday, Man Overboard played a brand of upbeat and poppy pop punk with the emotion of 90s emo acts such as The Promise Ring. The band was signed to Rise Records. They are well known for their motto within the pop punk scene to "Defend Pop Punk". On January 28, 2016, they announced a hiatus on their official website; the hiatus ended on August 2, 2018, when the band announced a 10-year anniversary tour.

Tigers Jaw is an American rock band from Scranton, Pennsylvania, that formed in 2005. The group was co-founded by Adam McIlwee and Ben Walsh, with Walsh serving as the only consistent member throughout. Blood on the Dance Floor was an American electronic music group from Orlando, Florida, formed in 2006. The group's longest standing lineup, from 2009 to 2016, consisted of Jesus David Torres, also known as Dahvie Vanity and Jayy Von Monroe. The group released nine studio albums before breaking up in 2016 following Von Monroe's departure. It was reformed by Vanity the following year, initially with Fallon Vendetta. After Vendetta's departure, Vanity became the sole member of the group. Since 2019, Vanity has performed under the name Kawaii Monster and most recently The Most Vivid Nightmares. The band was named after the song "Blood on the Dance Floor" by Michael Jackson.

In 2014, they reunited to release the EP Further Sky. The next album, Promise Everything, charted in 2016 in Australia, the UK and the US. The band's fourth album, Beside Myself, was released in October 2018.

Better Off is an American rock band from Nashville, Tennessee, formed in 2011 under the name Friends. They changed their name in early 2013 to Better Off due to another group sharing the Friends name. They have released two albums, (I Think) I'm Leaving (2013) and Milk (2015), the latter of which charted on the Heatseekers Albums and Independent Albums charts. In March 2016, while on tour with Mayday Parade and The Maine, it was announced that the group would be dropping off tour and "going silent for a while" following sexual assault and abuse allegations against the bands former touring bassist, David Hobbs. During the bands hiatus and dissolvement of all relations with the former member, Better Off apologized to those involved with the situation and continued to quietly create and release their single "Bad Habit" on April 25, 2018.
