The Unaka Range is a mountain range on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina, in the southeastern United States. It is a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains and is part of the Blue Ridge Mountains physiographic province. The Unakas stretch approximately from the Nolichucky River to the south to the Watauga River to the north. The Unakas include the prominent Roan Highlands, where several summits rise above 6,000 feet. The Iron Mountains border the Unakas to the north, and the Bald Mountains border the Unakas opposite the Nolichucky to the south. Morrison City is an unincorporated community in Sullivan County, Tennessee, United States. Named for pioneer settler Peter Morison, Morrison City developed with the industrial growth of nearby Kingsport, Tennessee in the 1930s. Peter Morison, his wife Mary Kirkpatrick Morison, and other relatives, are buried in the Morrison Chapel Cemetery, in the heart of the community. They were awarded a land grant by the state of North Carolina, which controlled the area prior to Tennessee Statehood, in 1780. This was to recognize distinguished service during the Battle of King's Mountain.

The Mountain Branch, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers was an old soldiers' home opened in 1904 in Mountain Home, Johnson City, Tennessee. Its site has since been taken over by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, and is home to the Mountain Home National Cemetery and the James H. Quillen VA Center. Also known as the Mountain Home, its campus was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 2011, as a well-preserved example of an early 20th-century veterans care facility.
