Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa is a professor of Inorganic Chemistry,Nigerian academician,administrator,and the former Rector of Kano State Polytechnic,the 3rd substantive Vice Chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule University,Kano.
Kurawa was born on 28 August 1970,at Kurawa quarters,of Kano municipal Local Government Area,of Kano State. He attended Yolawa Islamiyya Primary School,Kano between 1976 and 1981,he also attended Government Secondary School,Rano and Government Secondary School Kofar Nassarawa between 1981 and 1983. Kurawa also attended Science Secondary School Dawakin Tofa between 1983 and 1986,obtained Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Master of Science in Inorganic Chemistry from Bayero University Kano 1991 and 1999 respectively. Kurawa also obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Bristol,United Kingdom in 2005.
Kurawa was the Lecturer under faculty of Science of Bayero University Kano,Department of Chemistry where he held so many responsibilities from committees member,Level Coordinator,up to Head of Chemistry Department in 2011 and became the Dean,Faculty of Science in 2015 and also promoted to the rank of professor of Inorganic Chemistry in the same year. Kurawa was appointed Rector of Kano State Polytechnic in 2016 by Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje [2] where he served for four years [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] and he was appointed the 3rd substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule University,Kano on 2 October 2020 by the Governing Board of the University [10] [11] where he assumed office on the 22nd October 2020. Kano State is one of the 36 states of Nigeria,located in the northern region of the country. According to the national census done in 2006,Kano State is the most populous state in Nigeria. Bello Maitama Yusuf GCON was a Nigerian politician and businessman. He became Minister for Internal Affairs in 1979,and Minister for Commerce in 1982,and Senator repressing Jigawa central 3 times. Prior,to joining politics,he founded Quartz Integrated Services Nigeria Limited right after he had finished university,it was a renowned and very influential construction company which had first started operating in Kano. Furthermore,he was also the chairman on the board of four other construction companies at the time,thus,making him one of the youngest multi millionaires in Northern Nigeria at the time. In addition to this,he was a lawyer and had served as a chief registrar at the Chief Magistrate's Court in Kano. He was also a member of the Constituent Assembly and,up to his time,one of Jigawa's few billionaires. Bello Maitama set up the stage for all politicians and businessmen in Nigeria.
Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano is a Nigerian public university owned by the Kano State Government. It has two campuses:City Campus located in Kano,and the main campus located along General Buhari Way Kofar Ruwa Kano. In 2017,the university was renamed Yusuf Maitama Sule University as a tribute to Maitama Sule,the influential 20th-century Kano politician.
