The Murho Estate was a chieftaincy and later a zamindari (estate) of Yadav (Ahir) [1] [2] in erstwhile Bhagalpur district of Bihar (now in Madhepura district). [3] [4]

The name of the estate derives from a Murho village of Madhepura District. [6] [7] Members of the Murho family were very big landlords of the Kosi division. [8]

History

The Murho Zamindari (Estate) was ruled by Majhraut clan of Yadava. [9]

Babu Rasbihari Lal was an ardent freedom fighter, philanthropist and social reformer. [10] According to litterateur Dr. Bhupendra Narayan Madhepuri, Rasbihari Babu was scholarly in many languages like Hindi, Urdu, Persian, Bengali, English, French and Sanskrit. [11]

Chairman of Mandal Commission and former Chief Minister of Bihar, Babu B.P. Mandal was born in Murho raj family. [12] [13] [14] He was the third son of Zamindar Babu Ras Bihari Lal Mandal. [15]

Babu Bindheshwari Prasad Mandal was a scion of the erstwhile Murho Estate and an Indian politician who chaired the Mandal Commission. Mandal came from a rich Yadav landlord family from Madhepura in Northern Bihar. He served as the seventh Chief Minister of Bihar in 1968, but he resigned after 30 days. As a parliamentarian, he served as the chairman of the Second Backward Classes Commission, popularly known as the Mandal Commission. The commission's report mobilized a segment of the Indian population known as "Other Backward Classes" (OBCs) and initiated a fierce debate on policies related to underrepresented and underprivileged groups in Indian politics.

Krishnaut or Kishnaut Ahir is a clan of the Yadav (Ahir) caste found in Bihar, Jharkhand and Nepal. The term Krishnaut which to them denotes their descent from Lord Krishna.

Raja Rash Bihari Lal Mandal (1866-1918) was a zamindar, philanthropist and a leader of Indian Independence Movement. He wrote a book named 'Bharat Mata Ka Sandesh' during Bang Bhang movement.

Yadavs in Bihar refers to the people of Yadav community of the Indian state of Bihar. They are also known as Ahir, Gope, etc. The Yadavs form nearly 14.26 % of the state's population and are included in the Other Backward Class category in the Bihar state of India. Ahirs are among the land owning caste in the plains of Bihar.

Shivanandan Prasad Mandal was a freedom fighter and politician. He was the first law minister of Bihar. He played a role in the Bang Bhang movement, the non-cooperation movement and the salt movement.

The Majhraut or Majraut is a clan of Ahir (Yadav) that inhabits the Indian state of Bihar and Jharkhand. They are also found in different parts of Nepal. They claim to be descendants of the Yadava king Madhu of Mathura.

Vidyakar Kavi was an Indian politician and social worker from Bihar. He was the former Education and Road Construction Minister of Bihar. He served as the president of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee. Kavi participated in the Quit India Movement of 1942 and started his career as a teacher. He served as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council from 1957 to 1967 and later represented Alamnagar Assembly constituency from 1967 to 1977. Under his leadership, the education system of Bihar was strengthened. He died in 1986 due to cardiac arrest.

Farishta is a 2023 Indian Bhojpuri-language drama film produced by S. S. Reddy, directed by Lal Babu Pandit and written by Arvind Tiwari. It stars Khesari Lal Yadav, Meghasri, Pooja Gaguly, Amit Shukla in the main roles. The story revolves around Murari, a mentally challenged person, who is not accepted by his family.

Narendra Kumar Niraj commonly known as Gopal Mandal is an Indian politician and a member of Janata Dal (United) political party, based in Bihar. He is currently serving as a member of Bihar Legislative Assembly from Gopalpur Assembly constituency in Bhagalpur, Bihar. Mandal is considered as a staunch supporter of Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar. He has served as Member of Bihar Legislative Assembly for four terms, winning the Assembly elections consecutively from 2005 to 2020.

Lal Mohan Gupta is an Indian politician,currently serving as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council since 2024.He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Pandit Lal Das was a Maithili poet, writer and composer known by the sobriquet Mahakavi during 19th century CE in the Mithila region of Bihar. He was a scholar of Maithili, Sanskrit, Hindi and Persian languages.

Yogeshwar Jha was a former state education minister in the Jagarnath Mishra's cabinet of Bihar Government.
