"Music Is Crap" is the third single from We Have the Technology , the fourth album by Custard. It reached #73 on the Australian ARIA singles chart, [1] and No. 24 on the 1998 Hottest 100. [2]
The song was written and sung by lead drummer Glenn Thompson. Thompson would later say, "Ah ha! No look, I was kinda riffing on the idea of being very introspective, saying the vehicle that you are making your art, your art form is rubbish but at the same time you’re loving it. Ha ha, I just thought how punk is that?". [3] Custard frontman David McCormack noted that when Thompson joined Custard, "He already had "Music Is Crap" and a couple of other great songs which he was playing in another band around Brisbane called Adults Today which sometimes transformed into Adolf Today or Control Group. It was always the same band members but with different names." [4]
The song is often credited with reinvigorating public interest in Custard. Craig Mathieson for The Sydney Morning Herald wrote, "Glenn Thompson specializes in plaintive songs whose sweet melodies mask bittersweet jibes. This is one of his standout efforts". [5] Music critic Noel Mengel named the song the 43rd best from the state of Queensland in 2013. [6]

You Am I are an Australian power pop band, fronted by its lead singer-songwriter and guitarist, Tim Rogers. They formed in December 1989 and are the first Australian band to have released three successive albums that have each debuted at the number-one position on the ARIA Albums Chart: Hi Fi Way, Hourly, Daily and #4 Record. Nine of their tracks appeared on the related ARIA Singles Chart top 50 with "What I Don't Know 'bout You", their highest charting, at No. 28. You Am I have received ten ARIA Music Awards from thirty-one nominations. The band have supported international artists such as the Who, the Rolling Stones, Sonic Youth and Oasis.
The Whitlams are an Australian indie garage band formed in late 1992. The original line-up was Tim Freedman on keyboards and lead vocals, Andy Lewis on double bass and Stevie Plunder on guitar and lead vocals. Other than mainstay Freedman, the line-up has changed numerous times. From 2001 to 2022, he was joined by Warwick Hornby on bass guitar, Jak Housden on guitar and Terepai Richmond on drums – forming the band's longest-lasting and best-known line-up. Four of their studio albums have reached the ARIA Albums Chart top 20: Eternal Nightcap, Love This City, Torch the Moon and Little Cloud. Their highest charting singles are "Blow Up the Pokies" and "Fall for You" – both reached number 21. Casino Twilight Dogs is the third studio album from Australian band Youth Group, released in Australia by Ivy League Records on 15 July 2006, then in the United States by ANTI- on 30 January 2007. The album came several months after the Australian chart success of the band's cover of Alphaville's "Forever Young", which had been recorded for the soundtrack of the US TV drama The O.C.. "Forever Young" had received extensive radio airplay and become a platinum-selling, No. 1 single in Australia, its success taking the band by surprise as they mixed Casino Twilight Dogs. The song, although different in style to their self-written material, was added as the album's final track.
1927 are an Australian pop rock band formed in 1987 with James Barton on drums, Bill Frost on bass guitar, his brother Garry Frost on guitar and keyboards, and Eric Weideman on vocals, guitar and keyboards. They were popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s with their major hit songs "That's When I Think of You", "If I Could", "Compulsory Hero" and "Tell Me a Story". Their multi-platinum number-one album, ...ish (1988) was followed by The Other Side (1990). At the ARIA Music Awards of 1989 they won two categories: Breakthrough Artist – Album for ...ish and Breakthrough Artist – Single for "That's When I Think of You". At the 1990 ceremony they won Best Video for "Compulsory Hero", which was directed by Geoff Barter. In 1992 the group released a third studio album, 1927, which reached the top 40; but they disbanded the following year. Weideman reformed 1927 in 2009 with a new line-up.
"Berlin Chair" is the second single from the album, Sound as Ever by Australian rock band, You Am I. It was released in 1994 and peaked at No. 73 on the Australian ARIA singles chart. "Berlin Chair" was also listed at No. 23 in that year's Triple J Hottest 100, while in the 1998 Hottest 100 of All Time it came in at No. 61 and No. 52 in the 2009 Hottest 100 of All Time. In a phone-in poll in 1999, the song was voted best Australian song of the 1990s.
Calling from a Country Phone is the second album by former Go-Between Robert Forster, and his first self-produced disc. Drummer Glenn Thompson would later join Forster and Grant McLennan in a reformed Go-Betweens years later. The album also features Custard frontman David McCormack on lead guitar.

Glenn Thompson is an Australian musician who first came to prominence in Brisbane, Queensland, playing in the popular local bands Madam Bones Brothel with Pearly Black and John Rodgers, and COW with Robert Moore and David McCormack. Thompson played drums with Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens on his second solo album Calling from a Country Phone in 1993. He then toured Europe in 1994 with Forster and members of German band Baby You Know, Robert Pöschl and Michael Schott. For Robert Forster's world tour of 1996, Thompson was joined by Adele Pickvance on bass. Thompson and Pickvance were called Warm Nights after Forster's fourth solo release which was also titled Warm Nights.
Ball Park Music are an Australian five-piece indie rock band from Brisbane, who formed in 2008. The band consists of Sam Cromack, Jennifer Boyce, Paul Furness, Dean Hanson and Daniel Hanson. Their debut studio album Happiness and Surrounding Suburbs was released in 2011 and was nominated for Australian Album of the Year at the J Awards, peaking at number 36 on the ARIA Albums Chart. In 2012, the band released Museum, followed by Puddinghead, their third studio album in 2014, which peaked at number two. It spawned the certified platinum single "She Only Loves Me When I'm There", becoming the band's first song to chart on the ARIA Singles chart.

Thelma Amelina Plumbe, known professionally as Thelma Plum, is an Aboriginal Australian singer, songwriter, guitarist and musician from Delungra, New South Wales. Her father is lore-man Paul Winanga-li Gii Spearim. Her debut album, Better in Blak, was released on 30 July 2019 and peaked at number 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
"Bye Bye Pride" is a song by Australian alternative band The Go-Betweens that first appeared on their fifth studio album Tallulah. It was released as a 7" and 12" vinyl single on the Beggars Banquet label in the United Kingdom in August 1987, with "The House That Jack Kerouac Built" as the B-side. In Australia it was released in 1987 by True Tone Records, with "Time In The Desert" as the B-Side. "Time In The Desert" was originally released as the B-side of the band's earlier single, "Cut It Out". True Tone subsequently in 1988 re-released the single with a new B-side, "The Clarke Sisters".
Come Back, All is Forgiven is the sixth album by Australian band Custard, and their first new material in 16 years. It was released on 6 November 2015 through ABC Music on CD, vinyl, and digital. The album features the classic line-up of David McCormack, Glenn Thompson, Paul Medew and Matthew Strong. The songs were tracked at Horses Of Australia Studio on a weekend in February 2015. Overdubs were later added by David at Sonar Studio and Glenn at Horses Of Australia Studio. Glenn mixed it over the following couple of months.
