Mut (transl. courage) is a German political party founded in June 2017 by Claudia Stamm and Stephan Lessenich. [1]
Since 2009, Stamm has been associated with the Greens as a Member of Parliament. She resigned in March 2017 and formed Mut on 1 June 2017 with Lessenich and others. Mut is a federal party and is based in Munich. Apart from Stamm and Lessenich, the board members include Nicole Britz and Alex Schweiger, the treasurer. Britz is the former Chairman of the Pirate Party of Bavaria.
Other known members of the political party are Renate Ackermann and Matthias Matuschik.
It is the youngest political party to participate in the Bavarian state elections of 2018. Initially, the party had problems finding eligible candidates to contest in the election but they fulfilled the requirement. Among 44 out of 91 constituencies, Mut party had direct candidates. [2] [3]
The Christian Social Union in Bavaria is a Christian democratic and conservative political party in Germany. Having a regionalist identity, the CSU operates only in Bavaria while its larger counterpart, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), operates in the other fifteen states of Germany. It differs from the CDU by being somewhat more conservative in social matters, following Catholic social teaching. The Bavarian People's Party was a Catholic political party in Bavaria during the Weimar Republic. After the collapse of the German Empire in 1918, it split away from the national-level Catholic Centre Party and formed the BVP in order to pursue a more conservative and particularist Bavarian course. It consistently had more seats in the Bavarian state parliament than any other party and provided all Bavarian minister presidents from 1920 on. In the national Reichstag it remained a minor player with only about three percent of total votes in all elections. The BVP disbanded shortly after the Nazi seizure of power in early 1933.

She joined the CSU in 1969, was a member of the town council of Würzburg from 1972, and a member of the Landtag of Bavaria from 1976. She was vice-chair of the CSU from 1993 to 2017, and President of the Landtag from 2008 to 2018, the first woman in the position. She was regarded as the most popular Bavarian politician and as her party's "social conscience".

She is married to Tessa Ganserer, the first openly transgender person to serve in a German parliament.
