Brazil competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States. 225 athletes – 159 men, 66 women – competed in 18 sports. The country set a record with both 15 medals – only surpassed in 2008 – and 3 golds – surpassed in 2004 with five.
Brazil first participated at the Olympic Games in 1920, after missing the previous five Summer editions. Leila Gomes de Barros is a Brazilian politician and former volleyball player. She often played as opposite hitter and attacker. She was a member of the Brazilian squad that had great success in the late 1990s and early 2000s, winning the 1996 and 1998 editions of the FIVB World Grand Prix and being rated the Most Valuable Player in each win.
Jacqueline "Jackie" Louise Cruz Silva, is a Brazilian retired female volleyball player. Silva won the gold medal in the inaugural women's beach volleyball tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, partnering with Sandra Pires.
Carlos Arthur Nuzman is a Brazilian lawyer and former volleyball player, having competed professionally from 1957 to 1972 and represented the national team between 1962 and 1968. Nuzman was part of the first Brazilian male volleyball team at the 1964 Summer Olympics, when the sport debuted at the Olympic Games. He later became an administrator, with the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He was the leader of the Rio de Janeiro bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics and was subsequently appointed head of the Rio 2016 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Janina Déia Chagas da Conceição is a Brazilian former volleyball player who competed for Brazil in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She won the gold medal with the Women's National Team at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg. She participated at the 1999 FIVB World Cup in Japan.

Ana Marcela Jesus Soares da Cunha is a Brazilian swimmer who specializes in the open water swimming marathon. She is considered one of the best open water swimmers in history, having obtained 17 medals in FINA World Aquatics Championships. She has also received FINA’s Female World Open Water Swimmer Of The Year award six times. Her countless achievements are comparable only to those of Larisa Ilchenko, another multi-medalist in World Championships.

The impeachment of Dilma Rousseff, the 36th president of Brazil, began on 2 December 2015 with a petition for her impeachment being accepted by Eduardo Cunha, then president of the Chamber of Deputies, and continued into late 2016. Dilma Rousseff, then more than 12 months into her second four-year term, was charged with criminal administrative misconduct and disregard for the federal budget in violation of article 85, items V and VI, of the Constitution of Brazil and the Fiscal Responsibility Law, Article 36. The petition also accused Rousseff of criminal responsibility for failing to act on the scandal at the Brazilian national petroleum company, Petrobras, on account of allegations uncovered by the Operation Car Wash investigation, and for failing to distance herself from the suspects in that investigation.
Rosamaria Montibeller is a Brazilian volleyball player. She usually plays as an opposite spiker and occasionally as a wing spiker. A part of Brazil women's national volleyball team ever since winning silver at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, she has since won two medals in the Olympic Games, silver in Tokyo 2020 and bronze in Paris 2024.

She was voted the FIVB Top Rookie in 2016. She was also a gold medalist at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics.
Ericleia Bodziak, also known as Filó, is a Brazilian female retired volleyball player. She participated in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where she won a bronze medal with the Brazilian women's national volleyball team.

She competed for Brazil with Rebecca Cavalcanti in women's beach volleyball at the 2020 Summer Olympics and won the Gold Medal at 2024 Summer Olympics alongside Eduarda Santos Lisboa. She was also a gold medalist at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics.
