The NJIT Highlanders baseball team represents the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, New Jersey in NCAA Division I baseball. They are members of the America East Conference. [2] The team competes in the America East Conference within the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The Highlanders are coached by Robbie McClellan.

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is a public research university in Newark, New Jersey, with a graduate-degree-granting satellite campus in Jersey City. Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, originally simply Riverfront Stadium, was a 6,200-seat baseball park in Newark, New Jersey built in 1999. It was the home field of the Newark Bears, who played in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, an independent minor baseball league. The Bears played in the stadium from 1999 until 2013 when they announced a move to the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, but the team was folded shortly thereafter.

The NJIT Highlanders, formerly the New Jersey Tech Highlanders, are the varsity sport members of the Division I NCAA-affiliated sports teams of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). There are ten men's teams, seven women's teams, and three club teams along with a variety of intramural teams. The school's primary conference is the America East Conference. In November 2017 NJIT opened the Wellness and Events Center (WEC) which incorporates upgraded facilities for most Division 1 sports including a 3,500-seat arena for basketball and volleyball.

Isaiah Jamal Wilkerson is an American professional basketball player for Dorados de Chihuahua of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (LNBP). He finished his collegiate career in 2011–12 as the Great West Conference Player of the Year. He became the first player from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) to win the player of the year award and only the third overall winner in Great West history.

Christopher Mauricio Flores is an American former professional basketball player. He was the 2012–13 Great West Conference Player of the Year as a senior after leading the NJIT Highlanders to the school's first ever Great West Conference regular season championship. He is NJIT's all-time leading scorer in the Division I era after finishing his career with 1,726 points.

Sports in Newark, New Jersey, the second largest city in New York metropolitan area, are part of the regional professional sports and media markets. The city has hosted many teams and events, though much of its history is without an MLB, NBA, NHL, or NFL team in the city proper. Two venues in the northeastern New Jersey metro region, Prudential Center and Riverfront Stadium (closed), are in Downtown Newark. Red Bull Arena is just across the Passaic River in Harrison. The Meadowlands Sports Complex is less than 10 miles away from Downtown and reached with the Meadowlands Rail Line via Newark Penn Station or Broad Street Station.

The Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center (WEC) is a 220,000 sq ft. sports and recreation facility that includes a 3,500 seat basketball arena in Newark, New Jersey. It was built at a cost of $102 million by the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Wellness and Events Center is the home court of the NCAA Division I American East Conference, NJIT Highlanders. The WEC replaced the former arena of the Highlanders, the Fleisher Center. The new arena broke ground on November 12, 2015, and opened in time for the 2017–18 basketball season.

Robert Joseph McClellan is an American college baseball coach and former pitcher. He is the head baseball coach at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. McClellan played college baseball at Seward County Community College from 2001 to 2002 and Arizona State University in 2003 before pursuing a professional career.

In December 2013, Travis Johnson was hired as the first head coach in the history of the program. It was announced on 6/15/2020 that NJIT athletics would be joining the America East Conference for the 2020-21 academic year, meaning the Highlanders lacrosse team would belong to a conference for the very first time in the 2021 season.
