Naarappa is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language action drama film directed by Srikanth Addala. A remake of the Tamil-language film Asuran (2019) which is itself based on the novel Vekkai by Poomani, [1] the film features Venkatesh, Priyamani, Karthik Rathnam, Prakash Raj, Murali Sharma and Sampath Raj in prominent roles. [2] It is being jointly produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu and Daggubati Suresh Babu under their respective banners V. Creations and Suresh Productions. [3]

Filming started in January 2020. [4] Mani Sharma composed the film's music. [5] The film is scheduled to release on 14 May 2021. [6]

Plot

This is a story of a family which belong to an oppressed caste and how it tackles the problems caused by a rich landlord from an affluent caste.

Production

In November 2019, Srikanth Addala confirmed that he would be directing Telugu remake of Asuran with Venkatesh playing the titular role. [8] Title was revealed as Narappa in January 2020. [9] Priyamani was cast as Sundaramma and Karthik Rathnam as Munikanna, playing Narappa's wife and elder son respectively. [10]

Principal photography began on 21 January 2020 at village near Uravakonda in Anantapur district. First schedule was to be shot in Rayalaseema region for authenticity. [11]

Filming has been suspended in March 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic. [2]

Directed by Srikanth Addala, the film's music was composed by Mickey J Meyer, marking his second collaboration with Srikanth Addala. Mani Sharma provided the re-recording and background score for the film, while Anantha Sreeram and Sirivennela Sitaramasastri composed the lyrics for the songs in the album. Its release coincided with a promotional launch function on 7 December 2012 at Ramanaidu Studios in Nanakramguda in Hyderabad under the Aditya Music label.

Asuran is a 2019 Indian Tamil-language period action film written and directed by Vetrimaaran and produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu. The film is based on Poomani's novel Vekkai. The film stars Dhanush and Manju Warrier, where the latter makes her Tamil debut. G. V. Prakash Kumar scored the music for the film, renewing his collaboration with Vetrimaaran. The cinematography was performed by Velraj, with editing by R. Ramar. Asuran was released on 4 October 2019. The film's plot is influenced by the real-life Kilvenmani massacre that occurred in 1968. The film was a commercial success. It will be one among ten Indian films to be screened at the 78th Golden Globe Awards (2021) under the Best Foreign Film category. C/o Kancharapalem is a 2018 Telugu-language slice of life anthology film written and directed by debutant Venkatesh Maha. It is produced by American filmmaker Praveena Paruchuri and distributed by Rana Daggubati under the banner of Suresh Productions. The film features a cast of over 80 non-actors, most of them native to Kancharapalem, a neighbourhood where the film is set. The film received positive reviews from the audience and a majority of the film critics. The film received the Best Critic Movie award at 2019 Zee Cine Awards Telugu.

Karthik Rathnam is an Indian actor who works in Telugu theatre and Telugu cinema. Rathnam made his debut with C/o Kancharapalem, which was the most critically acclaimed film of 2018 and the first Telugu film screened in New York Film Festival. Followed by his appearance in ZEE5's Gods of Dharmapuri (G.O.D). He has been also signed on to reprise his role in Tamil remake of C/o Kancharapalem.

Virata Parvam is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language period drama film written and directed by Venu Udugula, and produced by D. Suresh Babu and Sudhakar Cherukuri. The film stars Sai Pallavi and Rana Daggubati while Priyamani, Nandita Das, Naveen Chandra, Zarina Wahab, Easwari Rao, and Sai Chand play supporting roles. The film has music composed by Suresh Bobbili and cinematography by Dani Sanchez-Lopez. The plot revolves around Naxalite movement that took place in Telangana region in the 1990s. The film is scheduled to be released theatrically on 30 April 2021.

<i>Check</i> (film) 2021 film by Chandra Sekhar Yeleti

Check is a 2021 Indian Telugu-language prison drama film written and directed by Chandra Sekhar Yeleti. Produced by V. Anand Prasad's Bhavya Creations, the film stars Nithiin, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Prakash Varrier, and Simran Choudary. Nithiin plays Aditya, a chess player who is on death row. The film was released on 26 February 2021. The film loosely resembles the American drama The Shawshank Redemption and miniseries The Queen's Gambit.

Drushyam 2, is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language drama thriller film written and directed by Jeethu Joseph and co-produced by D. Suresh Babu's Suresh Productions. It is a remake of the Malayalam film Drishyam 2 (2021) and a sequel to the film Drushyam (2014). The film stars Venkatesh and Meena, reprising their roles from the original. Principal photography of the film commenced in March 2021.
