Nancy Vickers (writer)

Nancy Vickers (born 1946) is a Canadian writer based in Ottawa, Ontario. [1] She is most noted as winner of the 1997 Trillium Book Award, French for her novel Le Pied de Sappho. [2]

Born and raised in Arvida, Quebec, she has lived in Ottawa since 1967. [3] She published her first poetry collection, Au parfum du sommeil, in 1989. [4]

She was also a Trillium nominee in 2009 for Aeterna: Le jardin des immortelles [5] and in 2023 for Capharnaum, [6] and has been a two-time Ottawa Book Award winner for La Petite Vieille aux poupées in 2003 [7] and Capharnaum in 2023. [8]

She is the mother of filmmaker Karim Hussain. [9]

Trois mélodies is a set of mélodies for solo voice and piano, by Gabriel Fauré. It consists of "Après un rêve", one of Faure's most popular vocal pieces, "Hymne", and "Barcarolle". The songs were written between 1870 and 1877, and published in 1878. They were not, however, originally conceived together as a set of three; the opus number 7 was imposed on them retrospectively in the 1890s, almost 20 years after their first publications.

Ottawa Book Award and Prix du livre d'Ottawa is a Canadian literary award presented by the City of Ottawa to the best English and French language books written in the previous year by a living author residing in Ottawa. Karim Hussain is a Canadian filmmaker and cinematographer. As a director he is best known for his 2000 film Subconscious Cruelty, and as co-writer of Nacho Cerdà's The Abandoned. In 2006, he adapted French-Canadian writer Marie-Claire Blais' work, La Belle Bête. For it, he won the Director's Award at the Boston Underground Film Festival.
