Nathan Green (born April 10, 2003) is an American middle-distance runner who specializes in the 1500 metres. Competing for the Washington Huskies, he won the 1500 m at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. [1]

Athletics career

High School

Competing for Borah High School in his hometown of Boise, Idaho, Green was a nine-time Idaho state champion and five-time Gatorade Idaho Athlete of the year in cross country and track and field. [2]

In 2021, his senior year, he won the Brooks PR Invitational setting a meet record of 4:01.76, less than a second off of his 4:00.76 personal best from earlier that year. Just two days after his Brooks PR win, he would win the mile at Nike Outdoor Nationals at Hayward Field. He would graduate holding Idaho state records in the mile, 2 miles, and 5000 m. [3]

College

In 2021, Green enrolled at the University of Washington, joining the Washington Huskies cross country and track and field teams. [3]

2022

His freshman year, he finished seventh at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1500 m in June. Later that month, he won the USA U20 1500 m title. [4] His USA U20 win qualified him to represent the United States at the 2022 World U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia where he would finish fifth. [5]

2023

In January 2023, he ran a mile personal best of 3:52.76 in Seattle, one of eight University of Washington runners who would run under 4-minutes in that same race. [6] Competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships, he finished fifth in the mile.

In May, Green claimed the Pac-12 1500 m title and would go on to win the 1500 m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships the following month, finishing just ahead of Washington teammate and defending champion Joe Waskom. [7] In July, Green would finish seventh at the USA Championships, running a 1500 m personal best of 3:36.29.

2024

After setting a Washington 800 m school record of 1:46.50 in February 2024, Green chose to contest the 800 m at the NCAA Indoor Championships, where he would fail to advance to the final. [8]

In April, Green ran a 1500 m personal best of 3:34.79 in California, a Washington school record and the fourth fastest time in collegiate history. [9]

Galen Rupp is an American long-distance runner. He competed in the Summer Olympics in 2008 in Beijing, 2012 in London, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and 2021 in Tokyo. He won the silver medal in the men's 10,000 meters in London and the bronze medal in the men's marathon in Rio de Janeiro. Rupp competed for the University of Oregon and trained under Alberto Salazar as a member of the Nike Oregon Project. He won the 2017 Chicago Marathon, becoming the first American to do so since Khalid Khannouchi in 2002. Rupp won the marathon at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials in Atlanta with a time of 2:09:20, and qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, where he finished eighth.

He also held the world record in the road mile set at the 2023 World Road Running Championships until it was broken by Emmanuel Wanyonyi on April 27, 2024.

Ky Robinson is an Australian long-distance runner. Competing for Stanford, he won the 5000 and 10,000 m at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In 2022, he represented his home country at the World Championships in Eugene and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. In December 2023, he set an Australian indoor 5000 m record in a time of 13:06.42.
