The National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) is an American organization and union that represents coaches in the National Basketball Association. It was founded in 1976 [1] and consists of all NBA head coaches, assistant coaches and alumni. [2]

It administers the league's NBA Coach of the Year Award, which dates back to 1962, and is voted on by a media panel of writers, reporters and broadcasters.
In 2009, it established the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award, in honor of the former Pistons, Magic, Nets, and Cavaliers coach. [4]
In 2017, it created the NBCA Coach of the Year Award, in honor of the Association's longtime executive director. The annual winner is selected by the 30 head coaches in the NBA. [4]

The National Basketball Association's Coach of the Year is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) award given since the 1962–63 NBA season. The winner receives the Red Auerbach Trophy, which is named in honor of the head coach who led the Boston Celtics to nine NBA championships from 1956 to 1966. The winner is selected at the end of the regular season by a panel of sportswriters from the United States and Canada, each of whom casts a vote for first, second and third place selections. Each first-place vote is worth five points; each second-place vote is worth three points; and each third-place vote is worth one point. The person with the highest point total, regardless of the number of first-place votes, wins the award.
Daniel Ricardo Manning is an American college basketball coach and former professional player who is an assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Colorado. Manning played high-school basketball at Walter Hines Page High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, as well as Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kansas. He played college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks, and played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 14 years. After retiring from professional basketball Manning became an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Kansas. He won the national championship with the Jayhawks in 1988 as a player, and again as an assistant in 2008. He is the all-time leading scorer in Kansas basketball history with 2,951 points. The next closest player to his point total is Nick Collison, who is 854 points behind Manning.
Michael Andrew D'Antoni is an American-Italian professional basketball coach and former player who is a coaching advisor for the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Dwane Lyndon Casey is an American basketball coach who most recently served as the head coach of the Detroit Pistons before transitioning to a front office position with the team. He is a former NCAA basketball player and coach, having played and coached there for over a decade before moving on to the NBA. He was previously the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Toronto Raptors, with whom he won the NBA Coach of the Year Award in 2018.
Lawrence Adam Frank is an American basketball coach and executive who serves as president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Frank formerly served as head coach of the Detroit Pistons and the New Jersey Nets, he has also been an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics and the Nets.
Delmer William Harris is an American basketball coach who is currently the vice president of the Texas Legends, the NBA G League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks. He served as a head coach for the NBA's Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Los Angeles Lakers, as well as the Legends. He was also an assistant coach for the National Basketball Association's New Jersey Nets, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Houston Rockets.
Michael Burton Brown is an American basketball coach who most recently served as the head coach for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Brown was previously the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Los Angeles Lakers, and most recently an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors. He is also the head coach of the Nigerian national team.
Robert Canterbury Buford is an American basketball executive who is the CEO of the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was named general manager in 2002 after five seasons serving as team president. Buford is also the president of sports franchises for Spurs Sports & Entertainment. Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award is an annual award given by the National Basketball Coaches Association (NBCA) to a longtime NBA coach's life in basketball and his "standard of integrity, competitive excellence and tireless promotion" of the game. The inaugural award winner was Tom Heinsohn. The award is named after former NBA head coach Chuck Daly.
Michael Goldberg was executive director of the National Basketball Coaches Association in the United States for more than 30 years. He began as the general counsel of the fledgling American Basketball Association in 1974 and later helped engineer the merger of the National Basketball Association and American Basketball Association in 1976. He became the executive director of NBCA in 1980 and was credited with improving the retirement and insurance plans of coaches.
