NATIVELAND is an annual music festival in Lagos, Nigeria, and organized by The Native . [1] The platform was established to bring together the best of pop culture, music, art, food, style, sports, and education in the Nigerian entertainment industry. [2] In 2020, Billboard Magazine named NATIVELAND as one of The Gatekeepers of the Nigerian music industry. [3]

History

NATIVELAND is produced and organized by The Native. It was created to bring together the best of pop culture, music, art, food, style, sports, and education in the Nigerian entertainment industry. The event is held annually at Muri Okunola Park, in Lagos. [4]

2016: First edition

On 22 December 2016, the first edition was held and powered by Ndani TV. The concert was headlined by Skepta, and Burna Boy and featured guess performances from, Ycee, Ajebutter 22, Maleek Berry, Fresh L, DAP The Contract, Odunsi (The Engine), Cruel Santino, and Lady Donli. [4] At the first edition, the music group DRB LasGidi, united on stage. [5]

2017: Second edition

On 22 December 2017, the second edition was held, and headlined [6] by Kojo Funds, Davido, Nonso Amadi, Maleek Berry, Burna Boy, Tekno, Not3s, Mayorkun and Yxng Bane, with guess performances from, Fasina, Fresh L, Mobblanta, No Politics Mob, Kazeem Twins, Yinka Bernie, AYLØ, Lady Donli, Barelyanyhook, Dice Ailes, Ladipoe, Prettyboy D-O, DJ Aye, Wavy The Creator, Odunsi, Blackmagic, Santi, Ajebutter22, BOJ, and SDC. 2018: Third edition

The third edition was held with Odunsi, PrettyBoy D-O, and Santi as special guests, with additional performances from Wande Coal, Runtown, Sababii, Falana, and Teni. [8]

2019: Fourth edition

At the fourth edition, the festival added a day for panels titled NATIVE HOUSE, which invited music industry insiders from various sects and artists from Nigeria and the African Diaspora. To discuss topics ranging from the migration of contemporary African music, visual art, and the international music interest in African music. [9] The festival feature guess performs from Naira Marley, Santi, Rema, Lady Donli, Tems, Joeboy, Fireboy DML, Buju, Gigi Atlantis, SOMADINA, Cuppy, Maison 2500, DJ Femo and more. With additional music provided by NATIVE Sound System resident DJs Bristar and Vvada. [10] Burna Boy and Koffee did not perform, due to the security at the VIP entrance was breached by fans. [11]

2021: Fifth edition

On 22 December 2021, NSS hosted the fifth edition of NATIVELAND, titled NATIV5 [12] at Harbour Point Marquee. [13] To celebrate the fifth anniversary of The Native. The music concert was headlined by Rema, Amaarae, Styl-Plus, Teezee, SGaWD, and Lojay, with guess performances from, Odunsi, Ayra Starr, Tems, Wale Davies, and Ladipoe. [13]

In April 2014, the NEA reviewing committee began collecting submissions for the 2014 edition. The deadline for submission was April 30, 2014, and the nominations were announced on May 29, 2014. Tiwa Savage and Davido received the most nominations with 5 each. Don Jazzy, Flavour N'abania and Wizkid all got four nominations each, while Olamide, Patoranking, Chidinma and Oritse Femi followed closely with three nominations.

Co-founded by Chinedu Okeke and Oriteme Banigo, it was created in response to a demand from the local youth culture for live, affordable, and accessible entertainment in Africa. The festival provides a venue for live bands, DJs, and musical acts to perform. It also features outdoor activities, local vendors, and artisans. The main show features a line-up of African acts from numerous countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Congo, Kenya, and the United Kingdom. The goal of the festival is to encourage the development of African talent and promote artists both within the continent and into overseas markets.

Oluseye Desmond Sodamola, professionally known as Spinall, is a Nigerian disc jockey, record producer, and songwriter. He has won numerous awards for his work, including All Africa Music Awards and The Beatz Awards. He is also the first Nigerian disc jockey to play at festivals such as Coachella, SXSW, and Glastonbury.

Quddus King well known as GMK, is a Nigerian record producer, sound engineer, rapper, songwriter singer and songwriter. He is best known for producing Bridge's "Needy", and "Searching", Cruel Santino "Gangstar Fear", Lady Donli "Cash", BOJ's "Awolowo", "Bill Up", and "Assignment", and Burna Boy "Different". The Grammy-nominated Best World Music Album African Giant by Burna Boy in 2019, earned him a special recognition from The Recording Academy. He is signed to Warner Chappell Music, and Love Renaissance.

Aylø, is a Nigerian neo-soul, and alternative R&B singer, songwriter, and music producer. He came into the music scene with an acclaimed mixtape album Insert Project Name, with lead track "wys?", featuring Cruel Santino. The accompanying music video for "wys?", was released on 26 May 2018, in collaboration with Samsung Nigeria, and HelaBase.

Teni Zaccheaus JR. better known by his stage name Teezee is an English-Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record executive. He is one-third of the musical group DRB LasGidi with BOJ and Fresh L. He currently serves as the co-president of NATIVE Records, and co-founder of The NATIVE Networks. He is best known as a pioneer of alté, and credited for the crossover success of Odumodublvck single "Declan Rice".

Alexander Uwaifo known professionally as Andre Vibez is a Nigerian music producer and songwriter. He is best known for producing "Rush" from Ayra Starr's album 19 & Dangerous and Rema international hit single “Calm Down” which peaked at number one on the India IMI International chart and also peak no.3 on Billboard Hot 100. In September 2022, he was announced as one of the new signed record producers of the Nigerian record label, Mavin Records.
