Navasky Anderson (born 21 January 2000) is a Jamaican middle-distance runner. He represented Jamaica in the 800m at the 2022 World Athletics Championships and finished fifth at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He is the Jamaican national record holder over 800 metres both indoors and outdoors. [1]

Early life

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Anderson attended St. Jago High School and Essex County College before starting at Mississippi State University in 2020. [2]

Career

2022

Anderson ran 1:45.02 at the NCAA Championships final at Hayward Field to break the Jamaican national record over 800 metres and finish runner-up to Moad Zahafi. [3] He was subsequently called up to represent his country at the 2022 World Athletics Championships held in Eugene, Oregon. [4] He finished seventh in his semi-final at the Championships. [5]

Anderson made his first senior final at the 2022 Commonwealth Games final held in Birmingham, England. [6] He finished fifth in the final running 1:48.75. [7]

2023

Anderson lowered the Jamaican 800m indoor record in February 2023 at the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, running a time of 1:46.58. [8] [9]

On July 30, Anderson lowered his own Jamaican 800m record to 1:44.70. [10] At the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Anderson competed in the 800m. [11] He won bronze at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile in November 2023. [12]

2024

In July 2024, he was officially selected for the Jamaican team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. [13]

In March at the 2006 Commonwealth Games Kenia earned a silver medal beating her hero Maria de Lurdes Mutola and once again breaking the national record. Kenia set her most recent National record of 1:57.88 in Crete, Greece. At the 2007 IAAF World Championships Kenia was once again knocked out in the semi-finals but many believe her performance was affected by the death of her coach. Kenia Sinclair is one of Jamaica greatest ever 800m runners and has broken the barriers of Jamaican female middle distance running. Kenia made the 2008 Olympic 800m final but she mistimed her run and finished 6th with a season's best of 1:58.24.

Warren Weir is a retired Jamaican sprinter, who specialized in the 200 metres. He was the bronze medallist in the event at the 2012 London Olympics, helping Jamaica sweep the medals. In 2013 at the Moscow World Championships, Warren Weir won the silver medal equalling his personal best. He finished behind Usain Bolt who set a World Leading time. His personal best is 19.79 seconds set at the National Stadium in his home country Kingston, Jamaica. He has since equalled his personal best in Moscow, in the World Championship final. He trained with the Glen Mills-coached Racers Track Club, alongside Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake.

Laura Muir is a Scottish middle- and long-distance runner. She is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medallist in the 1500 metres, having previously finished seventh in the event at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Muir won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships, and has three other top five placings in 1500 m finals at the World Athletics Championships, finishing fifth in 2015, fourth in 2017 and fifth in 2019. She is a two-time European 1500 m champion from 2018 and 2022 as well as the 2022 Commonwealth Games 1500 m champion and 800 metres bronze medallist.

Omar McLeod is a Jamaican professional hurdler and sprinter competing in the 60 m hurdles and 110 m hurdles. In the latter event, he is the 2016 Olympic champion and 2017 World champion. He was NCAA indoor champion in the 60 m hurdles in 2014 and 2015 and outdoor champion in the 110 m hurdles in 2015; he turned professional after the 2015 collegiate season, forgoing his two remaining years of collegiate eligibility. His personal best in the 110 m hurdles ranks him equal 7th on the world all-time list.

Adelle Tracey is an American-born middle-distance runner competing for Jamaica since 2022, having previously represented Great Britain, where she grew up. Tracey competes primarily in the 800 metres. She placed fourth in the event at the 2018 European Athletics Championships, but claimed a bronze in the North American equivalent, the 2022 NACAC Championships representing her new country, Jamaica. The following day, Tracey won silver for Jamaica in the 1500 metres event in the same championships.
