Navis is a genus of ticks belonging to the family Argasidae. [1] The genus is known from nests of sociable weavers in the Northern Cape, South Africa. The genus name is Latin for ship, as the tick's general shape, with parallel margins which round to a narrowed anterior, evokes the distinct appearance of a ship. [2]
Navis is one of six genera in the Argasid subfamily Argasinae. The genus currently contains 2 species: [2] [1]
