Naxibacter varians is a Gram negative, nonmotile rod-shaped, non-spore-forming, and oxidase positive bacterium from the Oxalobacteraceae family, which was isolated from clinical specimens and water samples. [3] [4]

Etymology

Its specific name comes from the Latin varians because biochemical tests have shown variable results. [1]

<i>Escherichia</i> Genus of bacteria

Escherichia is a genus of Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria from the family Enterobacteriaceae. In those species which are inhabitants of the gastrointestinal tracts of warm-blooded animals, Escherichia species provide a portion of the microbially derived vitamin K for their host. A number of the species of Escherichia are pathogenic. The genus is named after Theodor Escherich, the discoverer of Escherichia coli. Escherichia are facultative aerobes, with both aerobic and anaerobic growth, and an optimum temperature of 37 °C. Escherichia are usually motile by flagella, produce gas from fermentable carbohydrates, and do not decarboxylate lysine or hydrolyze arginine. Species include E. albertii, E. fergusonii, E. hermannii, E. marmotae and most notably, the model organism and clinically relevant E. coli. Shimwellia blattae was formerly classified in this genus.

Enterobacter is a genus of common Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacteria of the family Enterobacteriaceae. It is the type genus of the order Enterobacterales. Several strains of these bacteria are pathogenic and cause opportunistic infections in immunocompromised hosts and in those who are on mechanical ventilation. The urinary and respiratory tracts are the most common sites of infection. The genus Enterobacter is a member of the coliform group of bacteria. It does not belong to the fecal coliforms group of bacteria, unlike Escherichia coli, because it is incapable of growth at 44.5 °C in the presence of bile salts. Some of them show quorum sensing properties.

<i>Cronobacter</i> Genus of bacteria

Cronobacter is a genus of Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, oxidase-negative, catalase-positive, rod-shaped bacteria of the family Enterobacteriaceae. They are generally motile, reduce nitrate, use citrate, hydrolyze esculin and arginine, and are positive for L-ornithine decarboxylation. Acid is produced from D-glucose, D-sucrose, D-raffinose, D-melibiose, D-cellobiose, D-mannitol, D-mannose, L-rhamnose, L-arabinose, D-trehalose, galacturonate and D-maltose. Cronobacter spp. are also generally positive for acetoin production and negative for the methyl red test, indicating 2,3-butanediol rather than mixed acid fermentation. The type species of the genus Cronobacter is Cronobacter sakazakii comb. nov.

<i>Bacteriastrum</i> Genus of single-celled organisms

Bacteriastrum is a genus of diatoms in family Chaetocerotaceae. There are more than 30 described species in genus Bacteriastrum, but many of these are not currently accepted, and new species are still added to the genus. The type species for the genus is Bacteriastrum furcatum Shadbolt.

Naxibacter suwonensis is a Gram-negative aerobic motile with a single flagellum, and rod-shaped bacterium which was isolated with Massilia jejuensis from air samples on the Jeju Island and Suwon region of Korea.

Massilia alkalitolerans is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacterium from the genus Massilia and the family Oxalobacteraceae.

Massilia consociata is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped bacterium from the genus Massilia and family Oxalobacteraceae, which was isolated from a human clinical specimen. Its 16S rRNA gene sequence has shown that M. consociata belongs to the class Betaproteobacteria and is closely related to Naxibacter varians.

Massilia jejuensis is a Gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, motile bacterium with a single flagellum from the genus Massilia and family Oxalobacteraceae, which was isolated with Naxibacter suwonensis from air samples in the Jeju Island and Suwon region of Korea. Colonies of M. jejuensis are light orange.

Roseateles aquatilis is a Gram-negative, oxidase-positive, catalase-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium with a single polar flagellum from the genus Roseateles, which was isolated from industrial water and fresh water. Colonies of R. aquatilis are clear.

Sutterella parvirubra is a Gram-negative, oxidase- and catalase-negative, anaerobic, non-spore-forming, nonmotile bacterium from the genus Sutterella in the family Sutterellaceae, which was isolated from human faeces.

Virgibacillus is a genus of Gram-positive, rod-shaped (bacillus) bacteria and a member of the phylum Firmicutes. Virgibacillus species can be obligate aerobes, or facultative anaerobes and catalase enzyme positive. Under stressful environmental conditions, the bacteria can produce oval or ellipsoidal endospores in terminal, or sometimes subterminal, swollen sporangia. The genus was recently reclassified from the genus Bacillus in 1998 following an analysis of the species V. pantothenticus. Subsequently, a number of new species have been discovered or reclassified as Virgibacillus species.

Kocuria varians, also known as Micrococcus varians, is a gram-positive species of bacteria in the genus Kocuria. It has been isolated from milk, meat, skin, soil, and beach sand. It is 0.9 to 1.5 micrometers in diameter, and occurs in clusters, which can be up to 4 millimeters in diameter and are yellow. It is known to cause ocular infections, brain abscesses, and endophthalmitis.
