Nazmul Hassan Papon (born 31 May 1961) [1] is a Bangladeshi politician and a cricket administrator. He is a former Minister of Youth and Sports and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Kishoreganj-6 constituency. [2] He is also the former president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. [3]
Nazmul Hassan Papon was born at the north Bhairab River in the Bhairabpur area,Kishoreganj,Bangladesh.[ citation needed ] His father,Zillur Rahman,was the president of Bangladesh,and mother is Ivy Rahman,a Bangladesh Awami League politician. [2] He has two sisters,Tania Bukth and Tonyma Rahman. [4] [5] He was a former student of Government Laboratory High School,Dhaka.He completed his BSS from Department of Public Administration,University of Dhaka and MBA from Institute of Business Administration,University of Dhaka. Hassan was unanimously elected as the president of Bangladesh Cricket Board in October 2013,succeeding AHM Mustafa Kamal who was appointed the Vice President of ICC. He is the first elected president of the board,his predecessors being appointed by the Government of Bangladesh. [6] In the election,Papon competed with Saber Hasan Chowdhury. [7] In 2021,he was re-elected as the Board president for a third term. [8] On 21 August 2024,He announced step down as a president of Bangladesh Cricket Board. [9]
In 2018,Hassan became the president of the Asian Cricket Council. [10] After a 3-year term,he was succeeded by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah in 2021. [11]
Hassan has been the member of parliament of Kishoreganj-6 constituency from Bangladesh Awami League since 2009 to 2024. [12]
Hassan is the managing director of Beximco Pharmaceutical Limited and Shinepukur Ceramics Limited and a director of Beximco Group. He was the President of Abahani club for almost a decade. [2] He headed a subcommittee in the parliament formed to investigate the manufacturing practices of pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh. [13]
Nazmul Hassan has faced multiple controversies during his tenure as president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. [14] [15] He has been criticized for his disciplinary actions against players,including the suspension of cricketer Shakib Al Hasan. [16] Hassan has also been accused of pressuring players to participate in matches despite their injuries and difficulties. [17]

The Bangladesh Premier League 2019–20,also known as BPL Season 7 or Bangabandhu BPL Presented by AKASH DTH and Powered by TVS,was the seventh season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL),the top level professional Twenty20 cricket league in Bangladesh. The competition was organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The season was scheduled to originally start from 6 December 2019 and end on 11 January 2020,with the opening ceremony to be held on 3 December 2019. Comilla Victorians were the defending champions. However,the tournament was delayed by five days and started on 11 December 2019 and ended on 17 January 2020,with the opening ceremony held on 8 December 2019.
The 2020–21 Bangabandhu T20 Cup was a Twenty20 cricket competition that was held in Bangladesh. It was played by five teams,during November and December 2020. In November 2020,more than 100 players began to undertake fitness tests,ahead of a players' draft for the tournament. The players' draft took place on 12 November 2020,with the tournament starting in the third week of November. Two days later,the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the full schedule for the tournament.

The England cricket team toured Bangladesh in March 2023 to play three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The ODI series formed part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. It was the first bilateral T20I series between the two teams,and England's first tour of Bangladesh since 2016.
The 2013–14 Victory Day T20 Cup was a Twenty20 cricket competition that was held in Bangladesh. It was played by four teams,during December 2013. Four Dhaka Premier League teams took part in a lottery to determine who picked one each of the Yellow,Blue,Green and Red teams. Announcing the schedule of the tournament at a press conference on 21 December,the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that four teams would participate in the T20 series and AMBER Group would be the title sponsors of the event.
The Bangladesh cricket team toured South Africa in March and April 2022 to play two Tests and three One Day International (ODI) matches. The Test series formed part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship,and the ODI series formed part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. On 9 February 2022,Cricket South Africa confirmed the schedule and venues for the series.
The 2021 Bangladeshi cricket season is taking place from 20 January to 31 December 2021. A total of 29 international matches,including 4 Test,9 One Day International and 16 Twenty20 International matches are scheduled to take place in Bangladesh in 2021. 72 first-class,5 List A and 54 Twenty20 matches are also being held in this season. All the international matches will form part of the 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League,2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship,2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship and the preparation for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
