Nazzar Al-Jamali (born 1939) is an Iraqi hurdler. He competed in the men's 110 metres hurdles and Men's 400 metres hurdles at the 1960 Summer Olympics. [1]

He competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1984. Caristan later became the coach of French sprinter Christine Arron.

Mohamed Issa Al-Thawadi is a Qatari sprint hurdler. Al-Thawadi represented Qatar at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed for the men's 110 metres hurdles. He ran in the sixth heat against seven other athletes including defending Olympic champion Liu Xiang of China. While his strongest opponent did not complete the hurdle lap because of a serious injury, Al-Thawadi gladly finished in fifth place with his seasonal best time of 13.64 seconds. Although he ranked below the four mandatory slots, Al-Thawadi qualified for the next phase of the competition based on his time and performance in the heats. For the second round, Al-Thawadi, however, was disqualified from the competition, for being responsible to the second false start of the third heat.

The sprint hurdles at the Summer Olympics have been contested over a variety of distances at the multi-sport event. The men's 110 metres hurdles has been present on the Olympic athletics programme since the first edition in 1896. A men's 200 metres hurdles was also briefly held, from 1900 to 1904. The first women's sprint hurdling event was added to the programme at the 1932 Olympics in the form of the 80 metres hurdles. At the 1972 Games the women's distance was extended to the 100 metres hurdles, which is the current international standard.

Zahr-el-Din El-Najem is a retired Syrian hurdler and athlete. He competed in the men's 400 metres hurdles at the 2000 Summer Olympics. At continental level, he won one bronze medal in the 400 m hurdles at the Asian Athletics Championships and participated at the 1998 Asian Games. His personal best of 49.33 seconds is the Syrian indoor record for the 400 m event.
