Nelson Lomi is a Tongan rugby league footballer who represented Tonga in the 2000 World Cup.
Lomi was a member of the Sydney City Roosters in 1999 and 2000, making his NRL debut in Round 23 against the Brisbane Broncos. He went on to play in five first grade matches for the Roosters.
Lomi then joined the Newtown Jets in the NSWRL Premier League. [1] [2]
Lomi made his debut for Tonga in 1999 in a test match against New Zealand. [3] He was a member of the 2000 World Cup squad, getting sin-binned in the match against France. [4] In all he played five test matches for Tonga between 1999 and 2000.
Lomi now works as a carpenter, working alongside fellow-NRL player Fred Briggs in 2007. [5]
The Tonga national rugby league team represents Tonga in rugby league football. They are currently the fourth ranked team in the world. The team was formed to compete in the 1986 Pacific Cup, and have competed at five Rugby League World Cups, starting in 1995 and continuing consecutively until the most recent tournament in 2017, where they achieved their best ever result as semi-finalists.
Viliami William 'Willie' Marshall Mason, also known by the nickname of "Big Willie", is an Australian-Tongan former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s. An Australia and Tonga international, and New South Wales State of Origin representative forward, he played in the National Rugby League for Australian clubs: the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, the Sydney Roosters, the North Queensland Cowboys, the Newcastle Knights and the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. Mason also played in the Super League for English club the Hull Kingston Rovers and French club, the Catalans Dragons. He also played rugby union in the Top 14 for French club RC Toulonnais. During his career Mason was involved in a number of controversial off-field incidents which have received media publicity due to his high profile in the NRL.
'Sam Perrett, also known by the nickname of "Pez"' or "Sammy", is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer. A representative for New Zealand at international level, he was a versatile back who was capable of playing on the wing, in the centres and at fullback. He played for the Sydney Roosters and the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in the National Rugby League (NRL). Perrett was a member of the World Cup winning New Zealand team in 2008.
Anthony Tupou is a former professional rugby league footballer who played as a second-row and lockin the 2000s and 2010s. An Australian international and New South Wales State of Origin representative, he played for the Sydney Roosters, Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and Newcastle Knights in the National Rugby League, while also having a stint in the Super League with the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
Lopini Paea is a Tonga international rugby league footballer who last played for the Sydney Roosters in the National Rugby League. He previously played for the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and the Catalans Dragons in the Super League. His preferred position is prop.
Samuela "Sam" Moa is a professional rugby league footballer who plays as a prop for the FC Lézignan XIII in the French Elite One Championship. He is both Tonga and New Zealand international.
Edmond "Eddie" Paea is a dual-code rugby international rugby footballer for Tonga. Beginning his professional career playing rugby league with the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the National Rugby League, Paea made his debut for the Tongan rugby league team at the 2008 Rugby League World Cup, before changing to rugby union and representing the Tongan rugby union team. Eddie currently plays for his junior team, the Mascot Juniors RLFC in the A Grade South Sydney Junior Rugby League competition which Eddie returned to in 2019.
Sione Na'a Pangai Tovo is a former Tonga international rugby league footballer who plays as a prop for the Mascot Juniors RLFC in the A Grade South Sydney Juniors Rugby League. He previously played for the Thirlmere Roosters in the Grade 6 competition, Auburn Warriors in the Bundaberg Red Cup and the Newcastle Knights in the NRL.
Pakisonasi Afu is a professional rugby footballer who has represented Tonga in rugby league and Tonga A in rugby union. He is contracted to Austin Elite Rugby to play Major League Rugby in the United States. Afu previously played rugby league in the NSW Cup for New Zealand Warriors and Wyong Roos as a prop. His usual position in rugby union is centre.
